Suddenly, Earth-Friendly E-Readers Are Everywhere

Amazon Kindle 2
The recent price drop to $299 makes the Kindle 2, the most popular e-book reader out there, a bit more appealing and accessible. The full keyboard on the Kindle devices makes it easy to search for books and passages, as well as annotate text, while the 3G connection lets you download books, newspapers, magazines, and blog content wherever there's a cell phone signal. You can even purchase and read your books on your iPhone, and the system automatically keeps track of your particular place in a book (whether you're reading on your phone or your Kindle). It has enough storage to carry about 1,500 books -- in other words, more than most people read in a life time.

To Bastion78, everyone is entitled to their opinion whether they agree with you or not. It wasn't very nice to take the condesending attitude you took as you wrote your comments. That would be true no matter which side of the fence you were on. Remember you catch more flies with honey then vinegar.

I think the people who choose to read paper books are cool because of the nostalgic feel of opening and reading a book. But I am happy more and more people are choosing e-books because of the reduction of our carbon footprint. I think that Text Books and Newspapers should all go to E-books because of the massive quantities of paper that is used and thrown out day in and day out. E-books could also save people money, especially for the college and highschool text books. How often does a book come out in hard cover and you say. "Wow $40? I think I will wait for paper back." E-books can save schools and students Millions of dollars every year. I think it is time every student from the 1st grade to Master Degree level should have a Laptop.

Barney, I can tell you my 4 year old has no idea what the size of a pack of cigarettes is. He has (thankfully) never been around anyone who smokes.
As to the whole kindle debate, how many of you complaining about it own MP3 players? Cell phones? Other helpful electronics? That's all a kindle is really. Yes, its a luxury item and completely unnecessary. But I live in an area with a very crappy library and no bookstores. I also read 1-2 books/week. The kindle has been a brain-saver for me. Its extremely convenient in every way, very easy to read. I thought I would miss reading 'real' books, but truthfully now I have a hard time picking up a 'real' book. The kindle is that easy to read. As for its sales, as it is consistently back ordered I think amazon's doing okay with it.
