The Daily Engadget: Palm Launches Pixi, Leica Reveals Two Cameras

Our friends over at Engadget obsessively cover everything new in gadgets and consumer electronics, which is why we compile this daily roundup of their top stuff (or, at least, what we think is tops). For more details on any of these stories, click on the Engadget links in each story below.

Palm Announces Pixi
As cool as the Palm Pre is, it's high tech unfortunately comes at a relatively high price. If you're like us and have been eating a lot of bologna lately, the cheaper, but still quite sultry, Pixi might be more your speed.

Leica Launches Two New Cameras
With 'The Beatles: Rock Band' official launch and an Apple event already scheduled for today, 9.9.09 is hardly the ideal day to premier a new product. Unfazed, high-end camera maker Leica today announced two new cameras. A follow-up to the company's M8, the full frame M9, whose image sensor is the same size as a piece of 35mm film, will run you a cool $8,000. The compact X1 comes with a maximum ISO of 3200, 2.7-inch screen, and a 12.1 megapixel sensor.

The Engadget Show Records on September 13
If you live in New York and want to be a part of the most earth-shattering, tech-centric events of all time (or at least the newest), head on down to The New School for Design's Tishman Auditorium this Sunday for the taping of the first episode of 'The Engadget Show.'

Sega's Dreamcast Turns 10

Sega's Dreamcast may have been thoroughly trounced by the PlayStation 2 in terms of sales, but it captured the hearts of gamers like none other. Today marks the 10th anniversary of its release in North America.

HTC's Tattoo Unveiled
HTC's going entry-level with its latest Android handset, the Tattoo. The streamlined smartphone comes with a resistive touchscreen, which suggest text-entry and navigating the phone won't be as smooth as the iPhone.

Microsoft Spreading Linux Hate to Best Buy Employees
As it turns out, asking a Best Buy employee for a fair and balanced opinion of the Linux operating system is like asking Rush Limbaugh for a fair and balanced opinion of the flower arrangements at your gay wedding.

Canon Shows Off EOS 7D's Video Recording
Curious how well Canon's new EOS 7D does when it comes to shooting high-def video? Check out this short film showing off the DSLR's gorgeous 24p footage.

Man Controls Robot With Bionic Suit
Thankfully, we've still got a few years until the robots start controlling us. In the interim, rejoice as one man takes full control of a tiny robot with his body. Take that, machines!

Robot Mask Uses iPhone, Doesn't Take Calls
Legitimately cool techie Halloween costumes are hard to come by, and DIY attempts are usually painfully bad. Fortunately, recombu.com has a quick and easy guide to creating a robot costume with an animated mouth (powered by an iPhone). No iPhone? You can always dress up like an AT-AT.
