Hannah Montana Makes Sure No One Takes Linux Seriously

Hannah Montana Linux is based on Kubuntu (a version of Ubuntu, noticing a problem?), and customized with sounds taken from the Disney show and her albums, a purple desktop theme, and a wall paper that puts Miley Cyrus alongside the ubiquitous Linux penguin.
Linux purists are likely puking in a corner right now, while those who are sensitive to garish aesthetics are averting their eyes, lest it melt their faces à la 'Raiders of the Lost Ark.' Well, it could be worse... at least it's not Hello Kitty. Oh, wait you can have that too.
Check out the galley below for some more unnecessary versions of Linux. [From: DownloadSquad]

I'm neither a purist nor someone susceptible to aesthetic shock, however even as someone who is neither of these things I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.
I say take the people who coded this and have them fight to the death in hand to hand combat with the people who paid them to do it.

No, articles about this sort of thing make sure Linux is not taken seriously.

Remember how Apple became popular? Donating computers to schools where the kids could use them? This just might be the thing Linux needs to become more popular. It starts with the kids.

As much as I hate the nature of our consumption based society, I have learned (gulp!) that any national advertising is better than NO advertising and Linux usage suffers because of it. Miley has national name recognition, so Linux will be helped by it. Unfortunately, since the Linux community makes more decisions because of each individuals distro preference rather than whats good for the entire community, the community suffers. We need to take a breath, (gulp!) and move it forward any way we can.

I love linux, I started using Mandrake in 98 and been using linux ever since.
I went from Mandrake > Red hat> SUSE > Debian > Ubuntu currently.
Its all about choices...... If you like Windows Great.. Make a dual boot system.
Hard Drive Capacity is so big these days you can easily dual boot 2 or 3 operating systems. Or get Virtualbox and run an os in there. Or make a USB stick with Linux os. You have endless options...
I run XP & Ubuntu Dual Boot.

What a ridiculous article. Puking because of the choice of colors? What the heck is wrong with that? Have you never heard about tastes and preferences? Do you live in some communist country? I bet people enjoy a lot of choice regarding taste and preference in such countries too.
What about the opposite? What about the annoying obsession that technophiles have with:
- sci fi;
- anime;
- pseudo techno metal/Alien (as in Ridley Scott's movie) inspired scapes and motifs?
- extremely dark, aggressive wallpapers and themes.
These last two are my pet peeves. Why is it that dark, aggressive, badass themes are always "cool" or okay, and anything that dares look cute or somehow naive has to be shot down with so much hatred? Who ever wrote in stone that only a badass attitude deserves respect? When did the whole society decree that the whole gangsta rap or heavy metal "wicked" posing bullshit is socially acceptable? When did the world decide to forget that all that "I'm evil" posing serves no purpose other than hide an enormous feeling of insecurity or self-inadequacy, so typical of teenagers or manchild individuals?
And let's go back to the color. Why does everything have to be black? Because black is mean? Because black is oooooh... scary? No, it doesn't. I guess it can also be white or gray, can't it? Everything has to be very neutral. Or blue. You know what they say, jurors love blue. Is that why there is so much endless use of blue in Web design? What about Apple and that obsession with that sameold-sameold white, refrigerator/washing machine theme? THAT is supposed to be cool? The new KDE4, by the way, SUCKS! It looks foolish, it looks amateurish, it looks like something designed for children. And it copies Apple design all over. Win98 was the hot item way back then, so they copied it. Then Vista was "in", and they copied it. Now OS X is the fashion trend du jour and they duly copy it like the well-behaved copycats that they are.
Now someone comes up with something different and, hey, with a very specific demographic: teenagers. Probably female teenagers. Here is something great about young girls: they are not worried about putting up a ridiculous, make-believe badass or "I'm so techie" front. They are content with being themselves, i.e. happy, friendly, fun, sweet. That's their attitude towards life and I think it's great. All the dumbasses who think that the world is better with a permanent "who-is-meanest" contest haven't got the slightest clue. That's why they try so hard to look mean, because they feel this urge to hide themselves. They suck and they know it.
Purple Linux FTW!!!

You guys are way missing the point. I just mentioned this distro to my daughter and she will never use a windows computer again. Thanks to this distro, linux just received a 10 year old convert for life. Now get me a distro I can use to hook my 32 year old wife and 13 year old son, and you got yourself a linux family.
