Skater Stevie Williams on Watches, Gadgets, and Time-Killers
At last night's G-Shock "Shock the World" event, we caught up with pro skateboarder and soon-to-be watch-designer Stevie Williams to ask about his gadgets du jour. The event was packed with watch aficionados, Williams among them (as a G-Shock ambassador who is anticipating his own watch design). Last night also saw the debut of tattoo artist Mr. Cartoon's clown-emblazoned timepiece, of course, but we chatted up Williams about Monopoly, iPhones, and watches that tell height, as well as time. What is a gadget you can't live without?
My iPhone, for sure.
What are your favorite iPhone apps?
My favorite application right now is Monopoly. I play that every day. It's like a bathroom game... sorry, TMI! I'm heavy into it; it's one of those games I got addicted to. Actually, I love all of the applications I have on my phone. I'm kind of a gadget-whore, but that's my favorite device.
What other gadgets do gadget-whores have to have?
Well, it was the iPod touch. I had an iPod touch and a BlackBerry, and my man was like, "Why don't you just combine the two and get an iPhone?" I said I couldn't give up my BlackBerry because I liked it so much, but then, when I finally did, I felt like I had all of my gadgets in one place. Now I just can't give it up.
What will be important to you when you get to design your own G-Shock watch?
I'd really like to come up with something that skateboarders can use. Something that measures height or distances. Something cool that will reflect what I do.
Name some games you are playing these days. Anything you are totally addicted to?
I am always messing around with Street Fighter 2, NBA 2K, Grand Theft Auto, and Wii Sports. But, I'll be honest, I'm really excited about Tony Hawk Ride because I'm going to be featured. Players will be able to choose the Stevie Williams character to skate around with (screenshot below).
PC or Mac?
Apple all day, baby.
