Man Creates Fuel System That Runs on Mountain Dew
Gamers, extreme sports enthusiasts and rednecks swear by Mountain Dew, that cool, unnaturally green shot of pure caffeine in a bottle. Thanks to a New Mexico man's invention, environmentalists might, too.
According to KRQE.com, inventor Paul Patone has developed a fuel delivery system that can connect to and power everything from a car engine to a lawnmower. The GEET (Global Environmental Energy Technology) System, as Patone calls it, creates zero pollution by running on about 80-percent Mountain Dew, or any other soda, and 20-percent gasoline or diesel fuel. Anyone with a little time and ambition can build their own GEET, too, with these plans.
While Patone's invention is certainly a unique alternative, it's probably not real cost effective. According to an Associated Press video report, two 2-liter bottles of Mountain Dew (which makes a gallon) cost about $4. So don't expect a Mountain Dew crisis due to folks rushing out to build a GEET. [From KRQE and Gizmodo]

One has to wonder if this would run with sugar water, and whether or not it needs to be carbonated. Then again, I have to wonder if this works at all. There's only one way to find out!

It may have something to do with the high fructose corn syrup. And while buying actual Mountain Dew might make it a little cost prohibitive, I'm willing to bet it'll run on Dew's generic equivalent that you can purchase by the gallon for $.50.
Reminds me of the Simpsons episode where Homer is imagining filling his car with gasahol (what we call it in Iowa): Some for the car, some for Homer. A little more for the car, more for Homer......
My kid is one of those Dew junkies. He'd love this.

No need for anyone to be surprised. Great freight and passenger trains that crisscrossed all of N America 150 years ago ran on a certain kind of fuel that has since been phased out. It's called "water". Ever heard of the STEAM engine?
There are MANY viable fuel systems. We'd be using some of them instead of oil today if our gov't representatives and the Saudi royal family weren't in bed together giving each other passionate head for the past 75 years.

Uh no, the trains you speak of ran off wood and coal, both hydrocarbons like gasoline. The water is simply a carrier of energy. And we still use steam engines today to power the electric grid.

If he's from New Mexico why is the linked site in the Netherlands? Just curious.

I always get a tad 'gassy' after a 20 0z Mt. Dew.
