For some odd reason, I have TWO entries for "My Calendar", and no matter how many times I remove one of them (as I don't need two), the next time I go to edit settings, there are two again.

Also, I have blocked certain applications and then found them back on the list the next time I check - even though I have not visited them again. Seems that sometimes the list simply doesn't update or reverts to an earlier state.

Second, re adding friends:

There should be an option when accepting a friend request to assign them to a specific list right there. This would save several steps for users who are accepting friends for a specific application (such as FarmVille) but do not want that person's feed appearing on their homepage.

Also, while I appreciate the feature about asking if you want to view their feed being in the friend request, the way it is set up is confusing. I kept unchecking the box, thinking this would keep them off my feed - only to find them there anyway. Finally realized you have to keep the box checked to keep them out, but then even that doesn't always work (ie: gaming friends I had previously blocked ended up back on my feed again two weeks later).

One more thing - for those of us who do enjoy playing FB game apps, could you streamline the gifting process? Instead of being taken to the specific application for every gift (I sometimes have 10 for the same app, which means 20 or more page refreshes) - how about allowing the user to check a box for each gift related to that application, then choose "accept all checked items" or "ignore all checked items"?

Maureen

Comments on 14 Facebook Ills (and How to Cure Most of Them)

Maureen...you've said a mouthful... I, too, really love several of the games...VW, YoVille, FarmTown, My Zoo.....and having the game friends in my friend feeds is overwhleming...I do try to "hide" them, but they do still pop up...and the Gifting, as you mentioned is horrible....I have over a hundred right now....and Vampire Wars requires you to accept each individually....nightmarish...

ladymudd

Comments on 14 Facebook Ills (and How to Cure Most of Them)

Funny, I just went through all the new privacy settings yesterday and edited who could see certain photo albums of mine on Facebook. In my opinion, the real problem is that Facebook rolls out all these updates, and they don't tell anyone about them. Or when they do, it's in the form of these tiny notices that get buried in the clutter of the "news" feeds.

Therefore, it's not a matter of the site not being "intuitive," it's also poor communication between Facebook and its users.

pressplatypus

Comments on 14 Facebook Ills (and How to Cure Most of Them)

The only thing that really bothers me is my vanilla life style cousin found me. When you go to use them it freezes, blanks out, or shuts down your computer. The problem is Major with internet explorer, foxfire is better but still happens only less often. If you use Facebook regularly you can learn to control just about anything on it. I dont have any of the problems mentioned in this article. You can easily 'hide' friends apps with a one-time click when a friend posts something to your news feed and never see it again. I've been able to accept a friend request and send a message at the same time, so I dont know where this comes from. You can easily hide friends so you dont see their stuff on in your feed, and easily re-add them if you want an update on them. But you can also see much of what they are into by checking the right-side highlights you get whenever you logon to your home page. Just use it and pay attention, it's not that hard to do, and I am a 53 yr old child of the 70s. :o)

bris46

Comments on 14 Facebook Ills (and How to Cure Most of Them)

I am so tired tht when I go onto FArmtown, my computer freezes up. We had to pay almost $200. to repair the computer system, and there is still the "Sereniti Act. Sec, etc...." and the "failed to load score. dll" messages when the computer starts up. The really sad part is that Facebook only wrote an "I'm sorry." note and did nothing. At the moment we have purchased Kaspersky, and they are attempting to resolve it for us. I would advise people to avoid Facebook. Even in Farmtown, there are hackers posing as regular users like you and I, but if you click on them to work on your farm or you go work on their farm, they will hack into your computer and steal your information.

I've experienced some of the malware. I was smart enough not to download anything and I did not "purchase" their so-called anti-virus scan.
