Facebook Piles on the Guilt Before You Deactivate Your Account

While we have no plans of deactivating our own accounts, we hit up the page to see which of our friends appeared in the photos. Surprisingly, every photo was of us with a friend. It's likely the algorithm first chooses photos that have both you and your friends in them to deepen the emotional connection. Sneaky. We have to admit, tugging at our heart strings to keep us on the site is clever, and damned if we didn't feel a pang of guilt when their sad eyes stared accusingly at us for trying to leave. I just looked at the deactivation page on my Facebook and it's true... That's like, sad. They're so desperate for users... Oh well.. I still find Facebook very, very addicting ;]

You could do like me and just stop going to it and add the message service as spam.

That is why I never post any pictures of myself with others. I really do not have friends who want to be seen with me. It would ruin their reputation.
If you are as otherwise friendless as I am, it may be one of the few outlets I have to "socially" network. If I find messages, I respond as I can and do not make a big deal of it. Friends at a distance. Not like the people I work with. None of my co-workers seeks me out on-line, current or former. It would ruin their reputation.
