Webcams Bridge Band's Global Fans in Wild Video
Of Japanese origin (where else?), this piece of cyber-surrealism was directed by Masashi Kawamura, Hal Kirkland, Magico Nakamura, and Masayoshi Nakamura as a music video for SOUR, a quirky, three-piece band. 'Hibi no neiro' (translated: "tone of everyday") reminds us of this similarly artsy, now-legendary skate video, but kicks the eye-rubbing and head-shaking level up a few notches. The band had its fans film themselves via webcam for the extraordinarily coordinated and edited production. Just watch the dang thing.
We'd of course tell you all about SOUR, itself, but its Web site seems to be Google Translator-impenetrable. We can tell you that three men conjure up that "organic, urban, tight, mellow, sharpend [sic], and totally comfortable sound": hoshijima (lower-case 'h') on "gut guitar/voice"; Sohey on bass and upright bass; and KENNNNN (no, our 'n' key isn't stuck) on "drums/toys."
Really, though, those details aren't all that important. If anything, that "sharpend" sound (and lyrics that translate to "Pass through the maze of everyday") only distracted us from this smooth piece of cinematic eye candy. [From: SOUR on YouTube, via benhuh!com]
