NASA's Astronaut Sports Drink Now Available to Earthlings
Gatorade has some competition now. Coolers bearing that famous logo -- green block letters with an orange lightning bolt in the background -- might soon be replaced on the sideline, in the dugout, and on the bench. On June 11th, NASA began publicly offering its own sports drink, developed almost 20 years ago to save astronauts from muscle fatigue and dehydration. You can buy it online now, and soon the drink will be available in specialty sports stores. MSNBC reports that this concoction of sea salt and sodium citrate, when combined with water, increases endurance by 20-percent more than do water and drinks with carbohydrates. What did the marketing geniuses over at Colorado-based Wellness Brands, Inc., which licensed the drink from NASA, decide to call the product? "The Right Stuff," of course.
It's about time those folks down at the University of Florida, which originally developed Gatorade, were knocked down a notch. Wellness Brands president and CEO David Belaga says The Right Stuff formula doesn't interfere with the body's electrolyte absorption, like other sports drinks, because no sugar or carbohydrates are included in the drink. He also says the drink tastes salty because it has about the same amount of sodium "as a cup of chicken noodle soup." Let's just hope Wellness Brands doesn't use that as one of its new flavors. At the forefront of limited edition sales, Nintendo offered this yellow DS complete with Pikachu etching.

Nintendo Pink Ribbon DS
Nintendo not only pledged five dollars from every purchase of these $129.99 consoles to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation, but that they would also donate at least $100,000 in total.
