Man Saved From Certain Death by His BlackBerry
How's this for a new BlackBerry commercial? A skier glides down a powdery, white slope in Switzerland. Suddenly, he falls into a crevice. Just before he slips farther, his BlackBerry (stored in his chest pocket) catches the ice and saves him from falling to his death. It might not be a practical way to sell a product, but the phone company won't have to search for a spokesman.According to a report by The Sun, David Fitzherbert's half-inch wide BlackBerry provided just enough girth to keep him wedged in one of the Matterhorn's icy crevices, estimated to be about 700-feet-deep, while his mountain guide contacted a rescue team that could pull him out. Fitzherbert dropped 70-feet down a crevice while skiing down a glacier. He was stuck in the crevice for two hours while rescuers drilled, dug and eventually winched him out using a helicopter.
And to top it all off, Fitzherbert told The Sun that he used the phone to call his wife from the hospital and let her know he was alive -- he walked away with hypothermia and a concussion. [From The Sun, via Engadget]
Wired Politicians
Al Gore
Last year, hackers gained access to former Vice President Al Gore's blog, where they posted links to Web sites selling prescription drugs including Xanax, Oxycontin and Lortab. It is uncertain whether or not Rush Limbaugh visited any of the sites.

Putin with Dog
This past October, Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin saw a longtime dream realized when he equipped his black lab Koni with a GPS collar. Apparently, even dogs can be counter-intelligence risks.
Putin in Judo Get-Up
Always eager to display his virility, and his tech-savviness, Vladimir Putin released, and starred in, an instructional Judo DVD last year. And we thought George Bush was weird.
Ron Paul
As his campaign gathered steam at the end of 2007, Ron Paul watched -- probably confusedly -- as a group of his supporters banded together and marched in support of their candidate through the mystical realm of the World of Warcraft.

Karl Rove
Former Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove has recently entered the world of Twitter, regularly updating his page with self-promotions, answers to supporters' questions and topics for debate. How about this topic: "Does anybody really want that much Karl Rove?"
Rush Limbaugh
Unable to figure out how to back up e-mails on his Mac, a frustrated Rush Limbaugh beseeched Steve Jobs, on his radio program last year, to help him out. The problem must have been a tough fix; until this, we'd never heard of Rush asking for a Democrat's opinion.

Eliot Spitzer
After resigning from the office of Governor of New York, Eliot Spitzer finally found a new job last month, writing a weekly column for the online publication Slate. We wonder if that Playboy.com job fell through due to "a lack of moral fiber."
White House Christmas vid
Weirder than ever, George Bush and the rest of the First Family released their most eyebrow-raising Christmas video yet late last year. We're not sure what guest stars and gold medallists Michael Phelps and Nastia Liukin have to do with the Holidays, but we do know they're more popular than the still-President.

I don't know about anyone else, but I've read more than enough of these "saved by my computer/IPOD/toaster/refrigerator/TV/cellphone/basset stories.

Reminds me of the story from two years ago...A Jewish climber fell off the top of Mount Everest...but luckily he had a week-old MATZOH BALL under his yarmulke and, he too, was wedged safely against the mountainside!! He was later rescued, after sundown on Saturday, I believe. Hey! My story is as plausible as the Blackberry story!!!!

I HAVE NO SYMPATHY FOR THE IDIOTS THAT INTENTIONALLY PUT THEIR LIFE AT RISK FOR A FEW MINUTES OR HOURS OF THRILLS ... ..THE HELL WITH ALL OF THEM........I'M GLAD HE WAS RESCUED, BUT THESE THRILL SEEKERS DESERVE WHAT THEY GET

Here's a good one for you. When I was aboard the Titanic I was actually saved by the Trojan Man. The ship split in half, we all went down, but lucky for me I had a trusty Trojan condom in my pocket. I blew it up like a balloon and it carried me home, of course they're so strong it just bounced off the icebergs unlike the Titanic, and the dirty thoughts in my mind kept me nice and warm as I floated on home. Sounds just as believable as the Blackberry story right?

Kinda like my story when I was skiing down Mt K-2, 22,000 feet up.... I was skiing so fast, that my left ski came off the bidning... I was in mid air and came down between two glaciers.... the thing that saved me? My middle leg froze solid because of how fast I was skiing downhill.... The short or long of it is, that I am now a spokesman for the Extenze commercials !

It's from The Sun. Don't believe anything in that paper apart from the sports reports and the weather, and sometimes not even those.
