Sappy E-Mails Between SC Governor and Mistress Published by Paper
Politicians, more than any other occupation, should definitely know by now that private, naughty e-mails and photographs will inevitably not remain private. South Carolina newspaper The State published e-mails this week that are believed to be correspondences between South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford and his South American mistress. The messages, which date from July of 2008, describe the forbidden love between Sanford and Maria, an unidentified Argentinian woman. The messages get disgustingly sappy at times ("my heart cries for you, your voice, your body, the touch of your lips," and so on) and sometimes just weird (as when Sanford describes working on his farm and the wonder of "listening to country music playing in the cab, air conditioner running, the hum of a huge diesel engine in the background"). Sounds romantic. The offerings get ironic at times, too, best illustrated by one particular 1,300-word manifesto in which the married governor frequently cites Bible verses.
While stories about the infidelity of politicians are not surprising anymore, the circumstances surrounding the breaking of this story are somewhat shocking. The State uncovered the e-mails in December. In this era of 'First!' journalism, with little respect for fact verification, we can't believe a major newspaper actually waited for months before running such a scandalous story. Reporter Warren Riddle: this commentary has nothing to do with anything you reported except what is clearly a total lack of sensitivity on your part. Your derision of Governor Sanford's comments about his feelings for this woman, working on the farm, religion etc......indicate a complete lack of humanity on your part. Whether the governor's behavioor is wrong is not the issue. Your total lack of empathy or understanding is my point. Do you have a rock for a heart?

So, why did the State publish these e-mails before their authorship could be verified?
I mean, I hate sleazy politicians as much as anyone, but whe the Stae indulges in this kind of crap, I suspect there's an even sleazier politician at work, and the media is just falling all over it-
BTW-who's got he boobs in the photo, above?
