Traditionalists might balk, but the holiday shopping season is already underway. Skeptical? Head to your local department store and you'll be inundated by Christmas trees and ornaments. Bargain hunters, though, know that the real deals are more than a month away.
Black Friday, traditionally, is when retailers truly slash prices. Early birds can save hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars off of their holiday bills. Switched.com checked with a few elves, who gave a sneak peek at what you can expect deal-wise this year.
Blu-ray Players and Movies: Blu-ray is shaping up to be the biggest door buster of this year's Black Friday. de Grandpre expects at least one retailer will offer a Blu-ray player for just $49. Look for bargains on Blu-ray films as well, with last year's hit titles (such as "Iron Man") to fall as low as $5.
Laptops: With the proliferation of Netbooks this year, it's never been easier to find affordable portable computing, but Dan de Grandpre, CEO of DealNews.com says it will get even cheaper on Black Friday. Look for well-equipped Netbooks to sell for $199 – and basic 15" laptops to go for as little as $249.
HDTVs (Pretty big): The holidays are typically the best time to buy a new TV – and Black Friday is the time to do it. If you're looking for a normal sized set, you're in luck. Piper Jaffrey analyst Mitch Kaiser says he expects to see 32-inch LCD sets for as low as $299. GottaDeal.com is estimating 37-inch plasma and LCD sets will fall to $399 or less.
HDTVs (Really big): Need something bigger? How about a 46-47 inch LCD set for $599 – a 25 percent savings? Or a 52-inch LCD for $999? Dealnews says you can expect both. Plasma deals will be a little harder to come by, but a 50-inch set should run roughly $899.
HD Camcorders: You've wanted to shoot your child's school play in HD for a while, but haven't been able to spring for the pricey camcorder. This might be the year. Low-end, flash-based 720p models could drop as low as $60 (though you won't be able to zoom with those). Expect a high quality 1080p HD camcorder for $349.
GPS: While navigation systems have dramatically expanded their reach this year – even making it onto the iPhone – there's still a market for car-based systems. Dealnews predicts you'll be able to find a no-name entry-level system for $49, while a Garmin or Tom-Tom brand will be as low as $69.
Digital Picture Frames: Showcasing your digital pictures consistently gets cheaper. This year, skip the 7-inch screens and focus on the 8- or 9-inch ones, which should be available on Black Friday for as little as $30.
Monitors: Computer monitors might not be the sexiest of gifts, but they're usually welcomed with open arms – and they'll be cheap this year. Name brand 22-inch LCD models may go for as low as $99, while 24-inch models will drop below $150.
Memory: Don't know anyone who needs a monitor? External hard drives are always popular, since they're an easy way to back-up data. Dealnews expects a 1TB drive to fall as low as $49 this year. Gottadeal is looking for 8GB flash drives to hit $15.

You must supervise your childrens usage on cell phone, block texting from them. Monitor their phone privilages, check the billing each month. Limit there time on the cell phone. It's just common sense!

Who are you to talk. You can't even use the right grammar in a sentence. It would be their not there. Teenagers need a better life than just with THEIR parents.

its just being overbearingly protective. my parents raised me like that, and by 16 i ended up being a heroin addict. you need to let kids have, what i like to call.. supervised freedom. i now have kids of my own, and am raising them MUCH on the opposite.

Limit there time on the cell phone..The comment goes against child abuse, thus where we go wrong ,talk to them there will understand rather limiting them of which if they get the chance ,danger reflects

blocking texting altogerther is a bit drastic.... and what will that do? and no, it isn't "common sense" to become a cell phone nazi. you sound like the type of parent who would give your kids a ten P.M. bedtime for their entire summer vacation.

Well, if you trust your children you shouldn't have to do that. You don't want to shield them. I know when I was young, my parents did none of that, they trusted me and I never did anything bad with my phone and anything bad that I happened to come across I handled well because my parents gave me the tools I need to handle adult situations. Maybe young children, yes, but for teenagers and young adults you have to let it go because they're just going to do what they want anyway better to give them the tools they need to handle it rather then leave them hanging to fend for themselves.

Are you referring to yourself?

Actually Vic, you must not have ever watched cartoons. Bugs Bunny used to say "What a maroon" all the time.

Thermon, RIGHT ON!!! Thank you for your comment! It is refreshing to see that proper parenting and common sense have not been completely lost in the endless sea of "politically correctness" and other stupidity. Have a GREAT day and keep up the good work!!

Do you know that your kids probably hate you. I know that I would. Thats just too strict for kids. Your probably bitched about to your kid's friends, or are they not allowed to have friends too?

Why is anyone surprised that this ADDICT, sent this to the wrong address? She was more likely HIGH as a kite, when she sent it. Well, now, in jail, or possibly prison, she MIGHT get the help she needs. Let's hope and pray she does. KT

no, she wont. and its just oxycontin. big whoop. and i'm sure the only reason she does it is because she probably gets drug tested for the less dangerous drugs, where as oxycontin is pretty expensive to find. LOOK IT UP. my point being, if marijuana were just legalized, none of this would have happened. .. maybe.

Sad thing is with all of this new technology comes responsibility. It is a great communication device, I have had my share of 800 dollar texting bills (forgot I was on a limited texting plan) and serves me right. Responsibility would of said; don't text so much slow down and really do I need to stop working to discuss that? Hours are lost daily for every employee as I see each person in my store using a cell phone to text on the clock (I am a manager at a retail store). I do not stop them since I know it is useless and I feel they make up in extra effort in their position. Aside from that my friend bought a blackberry for his daughter because her friend has an I-Phone. We are talking 10 year olds here. Reality check, does anyone under 18 NEED a cell phone? There are younger kids then that sporting the new phones I can't afford. I remember the old day when if you did not answer the phone, you were not home. Life moved on, the kids were finding a way to let you know they were safe. Mr. Responsibility is knocking or should I say texting… "Hello just because everyone has a cell phone, is mature enough; together enough; stable enough; or just plain smart enough, should they be aloud to use one."
