In 2006, Katy Turner took a sick day from her job at the Cardiff, Wales body-piercing studio, Blue Banana, to sleep off a migraine headache. Her reverie was rudely disturbed, however, by a beeping cell phone and the discovery that she'd just been fired via text.

According to the message, Turner was let go for posting poor sales numbers. Her boss defended the firing-by-text to the local newspaper, claiming that, since SMS is all the rage with youngsters these days, "it was the best course of action to take." What's next -- twittering your personnel changes?
