Best of the Week: Twitter Versus Iran, Wii Bowling and Nine Ball Terrify Us
After the smart phone frenzy of last week, we were prepared to relax during a supposedly quiet week in tech news. Then Iranians took to Twitter, raising international awareness of an alleged election fraud, hitting headlines everywhere, and sending us into a spin. Then super-musician Amanda Palmer gave us a ring and we tried to dodge the madness inflected by the new Wii bowling ball. If that wasn't enough, the adaptable, dangerous and prolific Nine Ball virus reared its ugly head, which inspired us to help you minimize spam. A week like this one is enough to wear anyone out, but before we head off to celebrate Father's Day, here are some things popping up on the Web this week that you definitely shouldn't miss:
- While 14-year-old Caroline Moore discovered a new supernova using her telescope, Kate Moore -- unrelated and a year her senior -- accomplished something less significant, but just as relevant: winning $50,000 for being a masterful texter.
- To keep from discriminating against the blind, the B-Touch concept phone uses braille on its touch screen.
- Please, if you are going to commit a crime and leave your cell behind, don't have "Mom" as an entry. Not only will you get arrested, but you'll get an earful from her, too.
- Not all news is bad. Netflix is now processing your DVDs on Saturday, too!
- App junkies have had a good week: Developers are working on turning the cell into an air pen, and 'Brushes' for the iPhone allows you to fingerpaint without the goopy mess.
- Lastly, don't forget Dad. We've got your last minute gifts right here.
