Every week the news has at least one story about tens of thousands (or more) PC users being hacked, or having some virus that erases their hard drive, or something else - and if you want to let people spy on what you are doing, then a PC is your best bet. I have yet to meet ANYONE who has actually USED a Mac that prefers a PC. Why on earth would you? Macs are faster, virus free, and almost never crash. But, hey - you keep deluding yourself because your buddies told you that PC's were better. That year I bought my first Windows PC for home use. I did it only because the company I was working for at that time decided to switch to Windows and I reluctantly wanted to stay in line with them. I was an AutoCAD drafter and it was very easy to use on a Mac and more complicated on a PC. I never imagined how much trouble I had gotten myself into. Viruses at work, viruses at home, never ending to this day. AutoCAD crashes on the PC quite often with calls to AutoCad to try and get it fixed. Never had to do that on a Mac. Yes, Macs do get viruses, but on an almost daily basis? NO. Internet speed? Mostly faster on a Mac (depending on the models compared of course). Macs expensive? Yes!! PCs expensive? Yes!!!!!!. With a PC by the time you get all the necessary expensive protection and necessary protection updates, you eventually end up spending more than what you paid for the Mac. Crashes on a PC? More than once daily. Crashes on a Mac? Yes, but rare. Those who have not experienced a Mac are lying when they say that you cannot do anything on a Mac. On the Macs I had previously owned, I could do all the important stuff that a PC could do at that time, and do it more efficiently. Today IE, Firefox, Safari (for PC) and all the other browsers I have tried crash constantly. Right now IE barely works, Firefox tries, and Safari does the best on my PC, but still has problems because of the Windows interference system. If you like Windows and all the Windows software with all their problems, go for it; the software companies will love you for it as their wallets get fatter day by day. I am using a PC right now, but not for too much longer if I can help it.

wmtarin

Comments on Here Comes Nine Ball, Another Major Web Threat

If I was in the computer industry,I would hunt down the jerks doing this. Why are they doing this?Do they know they are influencing others to do this and putting not only their families lives at stake but theirs.

williem

Comments on Here Comes Nine Ball, Another Major Web Threat

Hmmm...I've had one virus in all the time I have been using PC's. "There is currently no sure-fire way to protect yourself from or clean up an infection by Nine Ball (except reinstalling Windows)". Yes there is. But its a lot of work. And once done, you never have to worry about viri again and your machine runs like brand new ALL the time. The secret? You backup your entire partition. When you restore it, its not like a windows restore, it is a TRUE restore. But the job is not trivial and takes a fair amount of computer knowledge to pull off. First, you either create 3 partitions on your drive (requires a complete wipeout), or add 2 more hard drives (restores happen MUCH faster). Then you reinstall windows on partition 1, and then another copy on partition 2. On partition 1 you only install one program.. the partition backerupper (that is a word right?). And you will only boot that copy of windows to restore partition 2 (your working copy). Next, on partiton 2 you install every program that you use or like, and configure them how you like so when you restore your system, its all done already. Next, make sure you configure all your programs to save your work and your downloads on partition 3 (this is where your restore file goes too). That way when you restore partition 2, nothing is lost.. EVER (cept maybe some cookies. Big deal). The partition backup program I use is called DriveImage XML. It's free and can back up partitions without a raw bit-for-bit backup (which can take hours). If you don't back up in raw mode.. the restoration only takes as long as a windows restore point. I don't run ANY virus protection because they bog your system as much as the virus do. Do I still get virus? Yes I do (just like everybody else). But once something seems amiss, I set it to restore, grab a bite to eat, and come back to a brand new windows install with virtually no data loss and everything configured just how I like it. One huge plus is.. I can install ANY program and try it first. If I dont like it, I just restore and anything it installed is COMPLETELY gone (no orphaned files or registry entries). If I do like it, then I create a backup of it and it is now permanently part of my backup. Yes, to set it up this way takes the better part of a day (most of it), but once done, your copy of windows runs like its brand new when you restore it (because it is). I've ran this setup for over 3 years now on a 3Ghz machine that runs as fast (usually much faster) as dual cores (because their realtime protection is usually on). Just make sure that during all this work that you never install untrusted programs, or hit any untrusted sites (EXTREMELY IMPORTANT). Just thought I'd share that.

realcode04

Comments on Here Comes Nine Ball, Another Major Web Threat

This artical is very misleading: First of all I bet none of the people here work IA so to say Mac is the cure well that's stupid, other systems like Ubuntu which are "PC" based systems were not infected by this Trojan.
