'DJ Hero' Video Game Lets You Spin Decks Instead of Play Guitar

DJ Hero Lets You Spin the Decks
Guitar Hero sparked a gaming revolution, spurring millions of gamers worldwide to invest in toy plastic guitars and faux rock out with friends. Inevitably those controllers wound up collecting dust in the corner, replaced by the next iteration of guitar, and later by a whole band's worth of instruments in 'Rock Band' and 'Guitar Hero: World Tour.' Now Activision is introducing yet another new game new peripheral to find room for: DJ Hero.

DJ Hero

The game takes the 'Guitar Hero' formula and moves it underground to the rave scene, replacing the axe with a turntable. On it are three buttons, green red and blue, which can be tapped to make percussion sounds or, when held while turning the turntable, make scratching sounds. There are also other controls for selecting sound effects, and you can even rewind the track to earn extra points. And yes, lefties, you can re-configure it to work the turn-table with either hand.

It looks like fun, but unfortunately we weren't able to play the game itself. We were, however, able to play the guitar vs. DJ mode, where one gamer plays the guitar in a sort of duel against someone using the DJ controller. Ultimately it's the same old 'Guitar Hero' gameplay here for the player strumming, but it's still fun. 10 songs will be able to be played like that, with a further 80 playable in the DJ mode.

Nobody's saying just how much it'll cost to get in on this house party when it releases sometime at the end of the year, but we do know it'll be available on the Wii, PS2, PS3, and Xbox 360.
