The Web's Most Controversial Sites

Site in question: Craigslist.org, a community-based classifieds site for furniture, jobs, and potential serial killers. Last month, the famed "Erotic Services" section was scrapped after lawmakers protested it was nothing more than an online brothel.
The Controversy: We don't know about other cities, but in New York, the supposedly non-erotic-services M4W ads are a step below prostitution (using code words like "generous" for johns and "roses" for dollars to get around the Craigslist monitors). The simple, message board-like construction of the site means that you have the freedom to post, well, anything, selling whatever you have to sell. From yourself, to a sea serpent, to a cat bus.
The Verdict?: Controversial, but not illegal. But it is a great example of what humanity is capable of unchecked. While we can condemn the site for creating dangerous scenarios, it's the people that choose to answer a level 8 ogre-mage. Craigslist is terrifying, but so are singles ads, dating sites, the subway....

Oh come ON! Posting about a video game is equated with posting about selling body parts or just one's body? Please!

I just sold my house on Criag's list and I love it. He got a good deal and we sold a property that was holding us back.

I gotta say this about Craig's List: I don't shop for sex, basically for reasons of economy but as far as community goes, Craig's List has never let me down.
Case in point: About six months ago, my Jeep was stolen from in front of my house. Now while my Jeep is a game little critter, beautiful she is not. But she is mine, bought and paid for, so when she went missing, I hollered. First for the local PD, then posting 'help me please' ads on Craig's List.
Stolen vehicles are notoriously hard to recover, particularly when they are 20 years old and the Police Department has other things to do. But within mere days of posting my ad, a kind and observant couple not only read and responded to my ad but told me where to find my Jeep. And with very little fanfare or conflict, my Jeep was driven home by us that very day.
You can't hold up Craig's List as a criminal sanctuary simply because evil people take the path of least resistance and quickest reward. More decent things can be found on CL than the distasteful; ultimately, PEOPLE ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR OWN ACTIONS.
