The Daily Engadget: Zune HD Hands-On, Google Unleashes a Wave

Our friends over at Engadget obsessively cover everything new in gadgets and consumer electronics, which is why we compile this daily roundup of their top stuff (or, at least, what we think is tops). For more details on any of these stories, click on the Engadget links in each story below.
Microsoft's Zune HD In the Flesh
We've been awaiting the unveiling of the Zune HD, and Engadget managed to go hands-on with the device that could finally give some solid competition to the iPod Touch, even getting a personal demo from Microsoft's Steve Ballmer. Engadget got some up-close-and-personal looks at the new device's OLED screen (which it calls "great") and the user interface (a "snappy," touchscreen version of the current Zune UI). We'd love to hear a bit more about the next-gen Zune's HD Radio capability -- you know, to see if it really works, or if we really care (after all, who listens to HD Radio, anyway?)
Google Wave Unveiled
Google's the dominant player in the search realm, but it isn't sitting back idly while the competition catches up. It's adding Wave, a new search extension that lets you chat while surfing, even providing real-time translation into different languages. Sadly, it's still early, and you probably won't get to play with it for at least a few months.
Palm's Pre to Sync with iTunes
Palm's Pre smartphone is, so far, the hottest handset to be released this summer, and it just got hotter. Palm has confirmed that the device will work seamlessly with iTunes (in theory as well as an iPhone), making it even more competitive with Apple's popular smartphone.
Solar Trilobot Wanders Aimlessly
Like random bots that wander randomly but don't consume any of Earth's precious resources? Then check out the Trilobot, a four-wheeled, insect-looking robo-creature that's fast, smart, and surprisingly good on many terrains.
Solar Umbrella Charges Gadgets, Blocks Sun
There's nothing like lounging by the pool on a sunny day, listening to some tunes and getting a tan. Wouldn't it be nice if you could do all that and save the planet? That's the idea behind the solar-paneled umbrella, which could cool you off and juice up your iPod at the same time.
