What You Probably Don't Know About Windows 7

One of these features is 'libraries,' which lets you break out of the standard file/folder paradigm with pictures by putting all your photos into a photo library -- even if they're in different folders. Also under-hyped are 'jump lists,' which gives quick access to commonly used files and features and limit how much menu digging we have to do.

To Jeanna: Yes...and Windows 7 is still in a beta test, what he probably put on is an open beta test or a release CANIDATE of Windows 7. NOT the final product, it won't be out until late this year if they follow schedule. Some people do it fine, but they don't intend people to use a BETA TEST of an operating system as if it's their real OS. To be blunt, your husband should have put it on a spare PC or set up a dual boot so that if the beta test or release canidate you had of Windows 7 crashed, you'd still have a functioning PC without having to fully reformat. His mistake for using an OS that's still being tested like it's a final release product, not Microsoft's.

Haha, it took over? Of course it took over, it's the Operating System. Not very computer literate terms you're using there. And just like with any operating system, yes including the precious OSX, of course he had to reformat the drive to go back to an older version.
I say if you're comfortable with it, go ahead and install the RC of Window 7, I now use it exclusively on my laptop and desktop, it's a breath of fresh air and absolutely amazing. In fact, not to turn this into a flame war, but my desktop is a new MacPro...and Windows 7 is so much more useful that I never use OSX.

Can anyone tell me if Microsoft is going to give people who suffered with Vista free upgrade or at least great discount? I have a HP touchsmart and VISTA shuts downs my internet and locks up my system.

I'm with you. I absolutely detest Vista, and have had nothing but problems with it. I, too, want to know if Microsoft is going to let Vista users have it for gree. They should!

I really wanted a "He## NO" option. I finally gave up on vista locking up, freezing, etc and went an bought a MacBook and LOVE it. Was told it would be really hard to switch but took less than a day to be easily up and going as fast as before.
No virus junk, no added pop ups, no locking up, no problems. Should have done this years ago.

Jenna, it tells you before you install Window 7 that if your not tech savy, then don't install it. At this time they do not provide any technical support because its in beta form. They have those tech groups on their website that can assist you though. But after I read everything before I installed it, I just said I will wait for the CD to come out next year. You have to know what you are doing when you install a new OS.

Micro Soft should give Windows 7 free to those of us who have struggled with windows vista, windows vista is the worst program with the most problems I have ever seen and Micro Soft should do this freely or be sued for the windows vista night mere we have had to endure!

I'm with Sandie! I was LUCKY enough to be able to purchase MS XP for $400.00 (one of the few companies to have no "haggle rules" and it only cost me $100 gift card to a PC expert to get my Toshiba laptop running. He spent over 40 HOURS downloading drivers, etc. I lucked out big time. I'm not a PC expert but use it for everything (email, banking, etc) for years.
Do I get the Windows 7 for free from Bill Gates???

I have been Beta testing Win 7 now for months. I dropped it on a new partition on my HD, very easy with having a Vista laptop. I can't wait to get rid of Vista for good. The networking in W7 is amazingly easy and solid. It is not near the memory hog Vista is.
It was immediately said NOT to put Win 7 on anything but a clean HD or partition.
Reading is still fundamental.

If Microsoft would just stick to one damn OS and keep improving it instead of creating a whole new system then there wouldnt be any damn bugs.

I was just wondering if anyone knows if Microsoft wil truly be giving away the 7 OS to those of us who have had to suffer thru learning an entirely complete new OS via Vista?? I legally blind and have been using from Windows 95 on up to 2000 and then my computer just could not go any longer so my brother bought me a new one NOT KNOWING anything about computer OS's other than he wanted a larger screen for me so he got the newest (the clerk at Costcos told him) that was on the market and the largest and said it would take me into the next millenium:) LOL!! It has Vista and since I have much time on my hands I have been able to look around and try various files, etc., but I truly pity the one who absolutely needs it to function like Windows all other OS's, it just is no where near like them nor compatable. So, again, I say we are owed Windows 7 when it comes out FREE and with at least ONE YEAR of tech service once installed over Vista.
I must agree with the person who said previously, if Microsoft would just work on "improving" what they already have they would truly be great. Now I'm tempted to try a Mac. Just thinking about it and going to look into it.
