One of these features is 'libraries,' which lets you break out of the standard file/folder paradigm with pictures by putting all your photos into a photo library -- even if they're in different folders. Also under-hyped are 'jump lists,' which gives quick access to commonly used files and features and limit how much menu digging we have to do.
You can check out the rest of Lifehacker's list of underhyped Windows 7 features at the read link. [From: Lifehacker]

I hate Vista! I just bought a new computer that came with Vista then recently discovered that the scanner on my all in one printer isn't compatible with Vista. I just ordered a brand new all in one that would be compatible...did I just waste my money? I'm wondering if the new operating system will be compatible with my current all in one printer?

If you are running vista on a computer with less 1, or 2, or sometimes even 3 (depending on what you are doing with it) gigabytes of RAM (memory) and a 32 bit operating system then anything you say about vista being bad is null and void. The true potential of the OS is unlocked with a 64 bit version and 4+ gigabytes of ram, which runs flawlessly on four machines I have. Vista is a RAM hog, but if you have what you need it gets the job done magnificently.

Macs are overpriced overengineered trash. I hate them along with the smug prick in the commercials.

To be fair, most of Vistas early problems were due to poor driver support and minimal hardware being sold as Vista ready! I have been running Vista x64 Ultimate for 18 months now and to date never had a problem! It is 100% reliable - My PC at work has an uptime of over 180 days! (Updates are disabled since I almost exclusively work in VMWare and host several servers on it)
The lack of driver support can be blamed almost entirely on the companies that make the hardware - Vista was available as beta and release candidates for months before its release.. It took Creative Labs a further 18 months to develop stable drivers for my soundcard!
One of the major issues with Windows 7 will be XP compatibility - for which it will use a virtual environment.. this will cause issues with applications that need full control over the hardware - such as games!
As for Macs, they are currently enjoying a relatively easy time with regards to viruses etc since they are not yet big enough to attract all the nasties that Windows users have to defend against. However the hardware these days is virtually identical to PC's, but is charged at ridiculous prices - sometimes over 50% more!
Personally I am looking to buy a SAM440ep-flex and run Ubunto / AmigaOS4.1 dual boot as my next system - OS4.1 has to be one of the most transparent operating systems ever made and the board has extremely modest power requirements (under 25 watts compared to 600+ watts for my PC!), and runs completely silent!

Making the OS first then telling hardware makers what they need to do is what Apple does. People buy PCs because the operating system supports existing hardware and various interfaces for that hardware. If you have to hunt around or spend high $ for something that says "Vista ready" you may as well look for something that says "Mac compatible". The part that is particularly ridiculous is video playback. A video that played completely smooth and clear on a 200 mhz pentium with a 2 mb VESA bus card under win 95 drops frames and looks like garbage on a 2 ghz 32 mb agp4x. I mean, the hardware itself supports all forms of mpeg rendering, scaling etc., why is it disabled under Vista?

Thank god MS doesn't make airplanes....can you imagine? Whern Ballmar wonders "why" anyone would pay $500 more for an Apple, the answer is simple, they are more reliable, easy to use, have functions that are actually useful. For the techie obsessed who like to spend hours debugging and cleaning up crashes and USELESS error messages, stick with PC's. Ballmer hands his crap off to one of drones to fix..I spend hundreds of dollars every year for PC fixes. I don't have the time the screw with it. I am too busy trying to keep my business afloat. Cost of ownership for Mac is far less than PC's.

Just buy a Mac, period, end of statement. Microsoft is finally realizing that their OS's get in their own way and doing things that mac has done for year..Mac OS X is very organized, all downloads, pictures, movies, etc all go into one easily accessible place where you then divide into folders for even more organization. Trust me, Macs are far superior and for you gamers out there who think Macs are have no game support, go watch someone play COD4 on a Mac with some power (like mine) and you'll be thoroughly impressed. And for you musicians out there (like myself) you cant beat the value and quality of Garage Band for music recording, mixing and editing. I learned that program through and through and it's a great thing for bands starting up..Logic by Mac is even better, professional grade software. I swear to God I don't work for Mac, im just a thoroughly satisfied convert..Microsoft has had an opportunity to impress me since Windows '95 (the last good windows in my view) and they blew it.

I agree with buying an Apple system as one person commenting, and I'm going to purchase some more Windows XT computers for future use. Vista stinks and as another person said, maybe it's their own way of forcing us to buy systems from them and keep his cash flow going? If that turns out to be true, I would NOT be surprized one iota. I never liked Gates from day one, and futhermore I could care less what his stupid stock price is.

the only big change that many programmers are hoping for is that Microsoft will fully up grade to 64 bit operating systems the reason why so many people are having problems with vista is because they were downloading all the different programing but not watching what format they were using. Owning a computer repair shop if u really don't like vista but want the security downgrade to xp black edition its the crossover between vista and xp. and to add to that you can change and format vista to work just like xp. please when you download things for your computer check your ram and hard drive space to make sure your not going to slow it down then make sure you match the program to your processor if you have 32 bit download your soft wear for 32 bit not 64 128 and up.
just match. and another thing try cleaning the registry and defraging the hard drive once a month most errors that mess up your computer our found in the registry

I'm typing this from the Windows 7 RC (Build 7100) and it's a fantastic OS. It's smoother, faster, more secure, and easier to work with. My favorite addition is the libraries; it makes it much easier to share my media library to the rest of the house. If you've got a laptop, 7 will please you with a highly functional wi-fi setup that makes connecting to your home network easier than ever. It'll automatically detect the security settings and just ask you for your passkey if you use one, then quickly connect. Oh, and Windows Media Center is finally a viable product, with shared media selecting between WMP and WMC, to the point where you can switch between the programs without missing a beat. Overall, I'm very pleased with the product. WMC also ratchets up the visual appeal with a scrolling media library background while listening to your music, similar to the covermix from Zune and iTunes. Games install and play flawlessly, making the best use of your hardware(impressive 10 fps gain from vista on Oblivion). Here's the real kicker for me. I installed the RC 32-bit on an old P4 with a 40 GB HDD and 640 MB of RAM and it runs smooth as silk! Looks like Microsoft is finally trying to make amends for their mistakes in Vista.

This is ridiculous. Windows 7 includes these special features...? Nothing new here. Jump lists? I put shortcuts to my commonly used programs and files on my desktop. Speed increase? XP is way faster than both Vista and 7. Libraries? I put my photos in organized sets of directories (folders) and can find my desired pictures very quickly.
Other big "features" of Vista and 7? The window preview when pressing ALT-TAB exists in a Power Toy for XP, free from Microsoft. But the XP version isn't a huge video card and resource hog. Record TV on your Vista / 7? I can do that on my XP Media Center Edition.
Meanwhile, XP is faster, more stable (in my experience), and you can get more use out of your screen than you can with Vista / 7 (because to make things look "flashier," they increased the size of the icons, so you fit less on your screen!)...
7 is just as much hype as Vista is, and is still CRAP.
IMHO, Windows 2000 was much more stable even than XP was, but XP handled Plug & Play devices better, and handled video games better. 2000 had less overhead than XP required, though.
So my question is: Why are Windows versions getting WORSE as time progresses? Flashier, but slower and less stable and less compatible, meaning more worthless? This makes no sense! Sorry, maybe my experience using computers since 1982 has colored my view of how a PC should run.

I WILL continue using XP x64 until ALL software and drivers no longer work with it,Mac started working when it adopted iNtel/AMD cpu's and MS software.
