New Clawed Robot Scales Heights in Seconds

Boston Dynamics -- makers of the weirdly awesome Big Dog robot -- has designed a fast, new robot that can climb a variety of surfaces with ease. The bot, whose six limbs are equipped with powerful claws, will inevitably strike fear into the hearts of lumberjacks and phone company employees everywhere.

The 28-inch RiSE V3, developed in conjunction with researchers at multiple universities, is capable of climbing a pole at a speed of eight inches per second. We're not sure what it does when it finishes the climb (plant a Boston Dynamics flag?), but this little guy is definitely full of potential. Check out the video above to see his claws in action.

For both of you human pole-climbing fans out there, don't worry. The RiSE v3 is still a work in progress. Brian Bartow's world record is safe -- for now. [From: Dvice]
