Morning Xtra: Brian Williams BriTUNES, Twitter Beats NY Times

Brian Williams as 'With-It' VeeJay
NBC anchor Brian Williams has a new Web-only music series called BriTUNES, where the genteel newsman will be interviewing indie bands -- first up, Rhode Island folk rockers Deer Tick. Between this and frequent cameos on '30 Rock,' Brian Williams has become the coolest man in news. And how hipster is that v-neck!? [From: MSNBC, via The Awl]
Twitter's Web Traffic Surpasses NY Times and Wall St Journal
A bit of Twitter news this morning: Thanks to the Oprah tweeting extravaganza and the media frenzy over the Ashton Kutcher/CNN race to one-million followers, Twitter surged past the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal in April, garnering more unique visits to the site than either news institution. In other Twitter news, ABC has announced that 'Nightline' will launch a new half-hour Web show in conjunction with Twitter called 'NightTline.' Tornado Alley Texts Tell You To Hide in Tub
Oklahoma sits right smack in the middle of "Tornado Alley," and averages an astonishing 25 twisters every year (last year, the state had 77). In addition to the blaring sirens and emergency television broadcasts, the state also provides free emergency notification e-mails and text messages. Good to see technology at work keeping people informed, but come on, Oklahoma, where's the Twitter feed? [From: Beta News]
Baby Monitors Interfering With Urban Wi-Fi
The U.K. Office of Communication (basically the British version of the U.S. FCC) is blaming baby monitors for interfering with urban Wi-Fi networks. Its research also cites microwave ovens, audio/video transmitters, and security cameras as potential nuisances to your wireless network -- who knew? [From: BoingBoing]
Greenpeace's New Green Toilet Paper iPhone App
If you often find yourself stuck in a supermarket aisle unable to decide which toilet paper is the best for the environment, Greenpeace has got you covered. Its new "Recycled Tissue and Toilet Paper Guide" iPhone app ranks facial tissues, paper towels, toilet paper, and paper napkins in terms of 'green-ness,' so you can spend less time choosing and more time saving whales and deciduous forests. No word on whether softness and eco-friendliness go hand in hand, though. [From: Common Dreams]
Police Allowed Warrantless GPS Tracking
Some disturbing news on the personal privacy front: A Wisconsin appeals court recently ruled that police can attach a GPS-tracking device on any vehicle without first getting a search warrant. The decision makes the claim that GPS tracking is akin to public surveillance (which doesn't require a warrant), but in reality this is a much more dubious ruling. GPS tracking doesn't require any actual legwork, and one officer could track multiple people at the same time, without needing to justify the tracking or give reasonable suspicion. Scary stuff. Another App Store Rejection: 'Me So Holy'
It seems like every day we report on another iPhone App rejected by the Draconian screeners at Apple's app store. Today's rejection du jour: "Me So Holy." This app allowed you to upload your photo and replace Jesus's face with your own, which set off the 'objectionable'-police. [From: Business Insider]
