Dutch Police Add Pot-Sniffing Helicopter to Drug War Arsenal

In the Netherlands, the sale of marijuana is legal, albeit restricted, but the nation is still engaged in a cannabis drug war. According to Dvice, 90-percent of the marijuana grown on local Dutch farms is sold illegally through smugglers and foreign drug traffickers. To help combat the unsanctioned reefer madness, Dutch police have added a new unmanned helicopter, dubbed the 'Canna Chopper,' which detects hidden grow areas using odor-detecting instruments and video cameras.
On its inaugural expedition, the chopper identified an illicit field and alerted backup humans, who then arrested seven farmers and confiscated several kilos (1 kilo = 2.2 lbs) of the odorous herb. (Did the copter get a "Good boy!" or a special treat?) The addition of such choppers to U.S. police forces would seem likely, especially in areas know to host illegal farms. We only hope that developers can adapt the technology to detect human odors, as well, so that similar devices can be used to locate missing backpackers or people lost at sea. [From: Dvice]

The only reason the Dutch use this type of expensive technology in their very open society is to protect their own profits from those who would seek to circumvent legal channels of taxation on cannibis , etc. These profits from cannibis from the Dutch government help these efforts. Now think about a place, like say America, or more specifically a state that has strict anti-pot laws on the books. What I'm driving at is this type of technology will be covered by the U.S taxpayer. The same taxpayer that is in debt. I do not believe for a second the majority of the people in this country would want to pay for a pot copter scout machine in a futile war on something most of the country will not even call a "drug", nor do I believe the president will permit his DEA from doing so, unless it were to become legal...

The Dutch police and culture can handle this kind of technology and use it wisely.
American law enforcement and culture, however is still a crying toddler, compared to the mature Dutch way of things.
American culture will take these little helecopters and create a religious-police state. That's what America's Christians and Militants (the political ones) want, and almost always get.
