Radio Shack Customer Receives Beating After Asking for Manager
If you've ever worked in customer service, you know how infuriating it is to listen to an endless string of mundane complaints or fend off duplicitous customers looking to get something for free. Regardless, there's a line that customer service reps should never cross -- the line between angrily getting a supervisor and mercilessly pummeling the dissatisfied shopper.
According to WEAU, Radio Shack employee James Knol of Eau Claire, Wisconsin crossed that line last Sunday night (April 28). Knol not only refused to accept a return item from customer Leigh Carey, but he also started punching him so violently that a witness called '911.' Apparently, Knol went all 'Incredible Hulk' when Carey asked to see his manager.
Knol was charged with disorderly conduct and battery, but WEAU didn't release any details about Carey's condition or plans for litigation, although we won't be surprised to see a lawsuit in the very near future. [From: WEAU]
Death of Print
Elle Girl
In April 2006, Elle Girl's print edition was closed down, but the Web site lives on at ellegirl.com.
CosmoGirl
Though it will be folded into Seventeen magazine, the teen version of Cosmopolitan will publish its last print issue in December 2008. It will live on at CosmoGirl.com.
Christian Science Monitor
Founded in 1908 by Mary Baker Eddy, this venerable paper will move all its daily content to the Web starting in 2009, though it will still publish a weekly print version.
Radar Magazine
Was it too snarky for its own good? We'll never know, but this modern-day successor to '80s-era Spy magazine shut down in October. AMI, owner of the National Enquirer, bought RadarOnline.com, however, which will focus on celebrity gossip a la TMZ.com.
US News and World Report
Once a serious competitor to Time and Newsweek, US News and World Report is now best known for its College guides, which it will continue to publish. The weekly newsmagazine, however, will be turned into a monthly, and all daily operations are moving to the Web at usnews.com.

"you sound like some of the lazy people we recently hired at walmart."
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Those "lazy people" are what makes WalMart all that $money$.....for starvation wages and no benefits. WalMart has not been doing very well lately....in federal court or in the public eye.
I suppose "lazy workers" is what you call your WalMart "associates" when they are out of earshot. All the cutesy commercials in the world cannot overcome your lousy reputation.

Don't ever get the gaurantee at Radio Shack it's worthless. Read all the fine print. They have no obligation whatsoever when it comes to phones. Again don't do it.

Imagine trying to explain to how you got you @$$ kicked by the salesman at Radio Shack, you might have to lie and say it was someone from Geek Squad to save-face, LOL

There's a lot I can say on the matter (but I won't). I sometimes get rude with customers, but I give them a three-strike system. Usually, most people apologize for their rudeness after I first try to help them and I can just forgive them and go about my business, but some people go too far, and in a few cases the managers have to ask them to leave. Some of the excuses and behavior are unbelievable for people who claim to have even a shred of decency and self respect.
[...then there's a long rant somewhere in between here that you don't want to read.]
In closing:
1) The way you find out if you'll like the taste is to just buy the damn thing like everyone else.
2) No, it is not my job to do everything to make the customer happy; do your own damn shopping and quit giving me that stupid look when I make you put your own stuff on the checkout counter.
3) The shopping carts are NOT TRASH CANS FOR YOUR DAMN DIAPERS!!!!STOP IT!!!!

I worked at Dillard's for a while and was rotating departments during a slow weekend. I wound up in petites and was sorting racks and taking out clothes that weren't selling on clearance (that go to charity). I saw a woman come out of the dressing area and went in a few minutes later to pick up the clothes I knew she must have left in there. I noticed a smell coming from the other end of the dressing rooms and recognized it as...yes, shit. I figured "hell it's probably a baby diaper" but was dismayed to see no diaper, but still the excrement. I called the dock guys to come clean it up. After being thoroughly disgusted, I took a break and came back 15 minutes later and went back to sorting through the clearance rack. I came across a pair of pants that...yes, smelled. I warily looked inside, and there it was. Someone had tried on a pair of velour track pants, shit in them, dumped part of it out, and RE-HUNG IT UP ON THE RACK. That made me want to kill.
So I can understand a poorly paid associate going ape-shit crazy on a customer after a long day of whining customers. It wasn't RIGHT, but I certainly understand.

The idiot customer probably deserved it. Good for the Radio Shack guy!.
I worked at a Radio Shack and the average IQ of the trash that walked in through the door was about 50. We used to get these two complete losers, let's call them "Bubba" and "Barney", coming in the store every second day to bug us about some moronic CB radio misconception they had. They stank, were rude as hell, insulting and constantly whining about some idiotic plan they had, which our equipment was apparently at fault for. (We backed up our pickup onto a highway guard rail to use it as an antenna, and YOUR CB radio didn't pick up MEXICO!!)
Fuckin Idiot.
When they came in one day, to waste our time again, the guy asked for my manager, who I would not summon, because the two dufuous were just there to waste his, and my time. The guy spat at me.
So, what would you do?. I didn't do anything, but even now, years and years later, I wished I had picked up my staple gun and bashed that idiot in the teeth.
GOOD FOR THE RADIO SHACK GUY!

I work as a waitress and there is not a day goes by that there is not a customer I want to slap the crap out of for their ignorance. Not that I would do it, but the thought has crossed my mind. They don't read the menu to see what comes on the plate they order, so when I bring it out they say "That's not what I ordered". When you politely explain it all comes with the meal they ordered, they slam their silverware on the table, cuss you out and walk out leaving you standing there wondering what the hell just happened.
Or you get the ones that order, you bring out their food, you check on them every time you go by the table to make sure all is well, they eat everything on the table except the napkin, then want a discount because it was the worst food they ever had.
I have worked with the public for over 45 years, and no longer believe in the old saying "The customer is always right"! If I think they have a valid gripe, I will do everything in my power to make it right. However, if they are just bitching to hear themselves talk, or get something for nothing....I am not going to do a thing for them.
I am not sure if the story said why the guy hit him, who threw the first punch, or what all was said, but the public needs to quit trying to get everything for free, and also need to read the fine print (or ask someone about it) before you go in and throw a temper tantrum like a 2 year old.
I believe the employee could have handled it better because no one deserves to be beat up over something so stupid, but the consumer also needs to be a little more understanding also. People just need to lighten up in general, and the world would be a whole lot better placy.

considering the cheap crap RAdio sac sells, I'm surprised this hasn't happened before. But assault is assault and I hope the customer sues the store silly.
JenMay 28th 2009 1:46PM
Sounds like the guy needs anger management classes. I realize that the sales associates at Radio Shack are under pressure to sell, but he was way out of line. Never ever should an employee attack a customer!

its not your fault some people are jerks that need a whooping , but anyone that works for radio shack or walmart the most is a loser ... dont waste your life at walmart

I worked at Ripoff Shack a few years. #1) Never hit a customer. yell at 'em, but never hit. #2 Radio Shack went from full commission to part commission. The pay sucks. try taking crap from customers at around minimum wage #3 I had some real idiot customers. a) Customer buys something & refuse to give her name to enter into the computer. She say's she's on the Witness Protection Program. Fine. Three day's later, comes in for refund, no sales ticket. how the "F" am I supposed to look her up in the system now. B) Customer walks into the store and asks, get ready for this one, "Do you sell radios"? C) Customer wants credit. I give him the credit application form to fill out. Ten minutes go by and I ask, "Everything Ok, Sir"? He answers, "Uhhhh.. What's my address"? D) Customer asks for my help and then I get sidtracked for less than a minute to help a female co-worker get something from a top shelf which she could not reach. Customer calls me a racist (customer is black) because I helped my co-worker before I got to her. I went off on the customer and on her husband.Manager had to pull me off. Did I ever want to whack a customer? Absolutely!

I don't think a day goes by that I see someone that acts like a butt-hole to a clerk, waitress, or regular citizen. Every airplane trip I've been on, theres a big mouth know it all on board. I work with the public and every week, there is someone I would like to tell "get the hell out of here" but in retail we are taught to be nice and so that person is never corrected in life and blesses other people with their attitude. Its sorta like professional sports teams keeping & putting up with all the screwups and nothing is ever done about it. Also try and go to a kids sporting event, always some idiot there too to sour the atmosphere. I love it when a shop owner can tell someone to take their business elsewhere, it really hacks off a trouble customer !
Reza OMay 29th 2009 12:36PM
Sometimes the customer in wrong and they need a good beating to understand that.
chefphxMay 29th 2009 3:15PM
I own my own Bussiness and no matter what. You' re are never right for argueing with a customer let alone hitting one. YOU LET THE MANAGER HANDLE IT.
I m sure there is more to it then we are being told.
But in the end Radio Shack will be sued and the court tied up because an employee Hit a customer instead of getting the manager.

Hmmm, new cell phone with only 4 hrs charge on battery. The cell phones that I have had came with uncharged battery. Instructions say to charge for 24 hours.
Maybe they stuck you with a used phone. Did it have instructions or a charger???

The same people that are dishonest in their daily lives are the ripoff artists that take advantage of 'the customer is always right' philosophy. They want something for free, and they will find a way to make someone else pay for it.
wyldsydeJun 2nd 2009 10:09AM
I think it boils down to someone who cannot fathom that they are in a dead end job. Another question I have is, Did a Wal Mart employee really question someone's IQ on this message board?
