Ways You Might Be Breaking the Law (With Your Tech)

10. (Photo) Shooting Sprees

You may or may not be free to shoot a photo or video of anyone you see. To play it safe -- especially if you sell your work -- ask the subject to sign a model release form. We all give up some privacy when we venture out, so you won't have to get paperwork from everyone standing in front of the European cathedral or on that Pacific beach in your vacation videos. But if you take a close-up photo of a cute child or couple and then you want to sell that photo on a site like iStockphoto or use it for some promotional purpose, you should get a signed release form. You can find a sample photo and video form here.
