Customers Find Rocks, Bricks Instead of Nintendo DS, MacBook Pro

According to the report, Wal-Mart told her to take it up with Nintendo, which told her to take it up with Wal-Mart, of course. Turns out that the same item had already been returned by another customer for the same reason. Once this surprising fact was brought to its attention by 10 Connects, Wal-Mart begrudgingly gave Wykle a refund and $20 gift card.
But Wykle got off easy. On Tuesday, Ryan, a reader of The Consumerist, bought a MacBook Pro at his local Best Buy in Texas only to unbox it and find a red brick wrapped in bubble wrap. He got the Best Buy runaround by manager 'Keith' that it wasn't their fault since Apple shrink-wraps the product and to take it up with the manufacturer. And since his credit card charge hasn't gone through yet he can't appeal to his his insurance. He hasn't had any luck yet recouping his loss. He's only out $2,164.89 for a MacBrick Pro. Let's hope it's the missing brick for his mantelpiece.
It seems pretty ridiculous that these retailers, and, it sounds like, manufacturers, are being so unhelpful about what is clearly not the product on the box. Are we missing something here? Is this going to keep cropping up at stores around the country? Who knows, but the Consumerist offers a bunch of tips offers a bunch of tips on how to get your money back should you end up with a box of rocks (namely, make sure you pay with a major credit card, check that the contents of the box match the serial numbers on the box in store, and, if you can't do that for some reason, then take plenty of pictures). Is anybody REALLY surprised by this??? I hope they trace it back to the scumbag that did it, actually it is very easy to do. The Dept. of Consumer Fraud will find the jerk.

I always make them open up the box and check the contents in front of me, or no sale.

I GUESS WE WILL HAVE TO DEMAND THE PACKAGE BE OPENED BY THE STORE IN FRONT OF YOU BEFORE AGREEING TO THE PURCHASE.
