So a Mighty Mouse isn't USB, can't right click or scroll, and doesn't come in the box with iMacs. I'm the first to criticise Apple if they do something wrong, but I hate people who hate Apple for no reason. Switchedfail.

talk about a rant!

This is ridiculous. The Mighty Mouse is a 5... FIVE button mouse with a scroll ball and bluetooth, that works out of the box. (yes you need to customize the buttons) Why rip on that? This deserves a post?

From someone who doesn't particularly like Macs, one of the things that impressed me most was the pack-in mouse that my girlfriends new iMac came with. It has 5 buttons. Five. Not three. Ok yeah so you have to change some settings within the OS. Big deal. The scroll ball is a perfect compliment to this OS as it has a lot of stuff that scrolls horizontally and vertically within the same window, and the scroll ball instead of a wheel is awesome. I gotta say I'm not sure why people loathe Mac mice so much.

My Apple mouse is bluetooth, and works particularly well. What I really want is a multi-touch track pad like on the MB & MBP's. Then I can have my monitor and keyboard and a multi-touch trackpad to be even more productive,

What a stupid thing to write. The fact that this actually got posted convinced me to remove this site from my feeds list. Later, haters.
blakecrApr 27th 2009 9:35AM
If you are going to hate on Mac for no reason, at the very least please make sure your crappy looking drop shadow isn't cut off by the the size of your photoshop canvas.

Did this message have a three year delay on it from the time it was written until it was posted? What is going on?
That said, the Mighty Mouse didn't impress me. I honestly haven't used it long enough to adjust to it, but there is definitely a learning curve there because of the ridiculous touch-sensitive button surfaces. It forces you to re-learn how to use a mouse, it wouldn't work correctly for me when I had my two fingers resting on its surface at all times (the way that I've been using mice for the last 15+ years).

Ummm, yeah...
Been using the Mighty Mouse since it came out. I've used all manner of mice from Logitech to Microsoft to Kensington. I fell in love with the Might Mouse and never looked back! The biggest gripe is needing to clean the scroll ball with a cloth and some rubbing alcohol from time to time. Big deal!

I use Mac, Linux and Windows. On my Windows computer i have a touchpad and a logitech g4 mouse, the linux computer has a thinkpad trackpoint and the mac has a mighty mouse. I prefer the trackpoint when I am on the move, and both the g4 and mightymouse is great to use.

I agree with Jon Chase.
Get a real effin mouse so your windows-compatible friends can borrow your computer and understand how to do stuff.
How pretentious do you have to be to not even abide by the rules of mice? Jeez
oloranyaJun 26th 2009 9:47PM
Why on earth would you base your computer purchase on what your friends need? It's you damned computer not theirs.
MarvinApr 28th 2009 12:06AM
Being a Mac owner, I couldn't agree more - the Mighty Mouse was $50 bucks and, frankly, that was $50 bucks too much. Ended up with a Microsoft mouse (just basic laser-mouse) and, outside of the 2,300ft cable, I love it to BITS.

Most computers come with Mice that are pretty basic. if you want something in particular for your Mac, Windows, Linux, Amiga, Commodore 64 or whatever you can just get what you like. All USB mice are Human Interface Device compliant and generally work on all systems.
Having said that, I use a Mac several hours a day, and came to detest the Might Mouse. After a couple months, it started making loud creaking noises when I clicked. The right click was very touchy and often sent a left click instead. The side button (it's on both sides, but actually one button) requires a bizarre squeeze and frequently triggered when I did not squeeze. The lack of physically separate right and left buttons caused unreliable clicking and a strange sensation as the whole mouse clicks rather than just a button. The scroll ball is truly nice, but it's the only part of the Might Mouse that is not junk. Just my opinion. I am much happier with a Microsoft mouse on my Mac (ironic, huh?). I may try a Logitech MX Revolution--people say great things about them.
madmermaidJun 17th 2009 5:26PM
Am I the only one who has problems using a perfectly good Microsoft mouse with a Mac? It works fine on my PC, but on my Mac, its movement is jerky and unreliable. Ends up killing my wrist after 15 minutes.
oloranyaJun 26th 2009 9:48PM
Sounds like you need to change the settings for tracking and such.
Raccoon2Jan 6th 2010 7:31AM
What a dork, I love the Apple Mighty Mouse.
I had a wireless Microsoft mouse, and it kept losing its connection, it was a really pain. My Apple mouse is great and was built for the mac, and by the way you can right click and do everything you can do on a Microsoft mouse.
Here's some advice buy a Mac and see why so many other Windows users are finding out on what they have been missing out on, an operating system that works and is logical. I made the move form Windows to Mac, and all I can say is windows is ten years behind and is crap. MS should make it a free download it's that bad.
