Cell Phone Reception Coming to Mt. Everest (Tweeting Next)

Every so often, you just need to unplug, get far away from technology, and go someplace where it is all but impossible for somebody to reach you, even in the case of an emergency. Those looking to escape the encroaching digital crush have routinely fled to areas of the world where there is little sign of modern life -- places like the 100-Mile Wilderness in Maine, the Amazon Rain Forest, or Mount Everest in Nepal.
Sadly, we are running out of places to hide. Nepal Telecom (NT) is planning to build antennas that will allow you to get Twitter updates while you're trying to scale the tallest mountain on Earth. This June, NT will bring cell phone reception to Mount Everest, offering an alternative for climbers who must currently rely on satellite phones.
While we will admit the idea of sending a tweet (picture included of course) from the top of the world sounds pretty cool, we're still sad to see yet another cell phone-free bastion fall. [From: MYREPUBLICA, Via: The Raw Feed]

Meh, Everest is a tourist trap. Every climber knows K2 is where it's at.

Nice, now I can go. If I can't tweet while I'm hanging off a precipice, it's not worth going. People will think I'm silly, but if blond chick can Twitter, put on makeup, and drink bottled water all at the same time while driving, I think I can twitter and climb at the same time. (

Ted Kaczynski was right -- technology is taking over every aspect of our lives. Join us in taking back America and defending the environment from capitalist corporations whose only purpose is to make billions of dollars at the expense of our natural resources.
