Reasons to Quit Facebook

Stupid notes
Facebook notes let users write a post and tag people they think might be interested in reading it. We all know that one person who writes a new note every week, then tags every one of his 2,000 friends to try and get them to read it, subjecting everyone to drawn out, pronoun-heavy stories about his "thoughts on existence." We get enough opinions hurled our way every day by e-mail, blog feeds, and Twitter updates -- and we actually choose to view those -- but we don't need to waste our valuable time reading someone's meaningless drivel just to see if he really mentioned every one of our friends. We think Facebook should enable us to filter out specific content from specific people. If Crazy Uncle Larry keeps tagging us in notes, we should at least be able to say we don't want to be notified every time.

I quit Facebook a long, long time ago...because I never subscribed XD. Does that prove my intellectual competence?
I got twitter but only to follow certain organizations more closely, I don't actually twit anything (yes I call them "twits" because its twitter, not tweeter.)

Many of the complaints on this list can be fixed. Instead of ragging on Facebook get rid of your account. There is no law that an individual must have one.

I've used Facebook for quite some time now. My opinion is, if people use it responsibly and adjust privacy settings, there shouldn't be negative issues. You're free to accept friends or not...comment or not...add photos or not. Info has to be spread throughout FB to feed the ' social ' side of it but it's ultimately up to the person how little or how much info they put up. All who join know....or shortly after discover...their posts are all over FB...so I've yet to understand the problem with this site...except, it's giving other social/networking sites stiff competition. So maybe, someones not liking that...thus these stories continue to appear.

I love, love love Facebook. It was an awesome idea. This writer obviously has something against Facebook. He needs to quit being so hostile because he didn't come up with the idea first. Facebook enables me to keep in touch with friends I made on the East Coast. I've moved now, and without Facebook, I probablly wouldn't be able to keep in touch with them. If you have a problem with Facebook, leave. If not, great! You're more than welcome to stay. Take you're negative opion elsewhere man.

Chad Mumm, you are a prick. First off, Facebook was first designed for college students, then high school students, and now open to the "public". It was designed for kids! I'm sorry if you're so mature as to not enjoy poking someone or hate getting invited to "stupid" events but the kids that were intended for Facebook enjoy those things. Facebook allows you to filter every application, note, etc. from every person on Facebook (friend or non-friend). From reading your 15 reasons, it sounds like you are an arrogant idiot who joined Facebook and requested to be friends with one million six-year-olds. I have over 500 friends and none of them do any of the things you mentioned. I doubt that anyone else does the things mentioned above or else no one would have a Facebook and it wouldn't have made Zuckerman the world's youngest billionaire. Get a life and grow a pair of nuts jerk-off.

I love Facebook, reconnecting with people and above all "Mafia War's I think Face book is great! But it is not for everyone so if it is not for you just delete your account end of problem!

Oh geez, Chad Mumm... Let me guess, you also rallied when rock n'' roll first came out too, right? I am so tired of people knocking Facebook like they are "better than that." Step out from under your rock, people, and get with the times. Facebook is the new fad - the latest rave - in socializing through technology. In 5 years, it will be something else. Half the claims made in the article are inaccurate. Facebook is what you make of it... to each her own. No one is required to poke, like, update status, write notes, tag pictures, complete quizzes, or befriend anyone they don't want to. Facebook is a wonderful way of networking and reconnecting in our busy and hectic lives. I have found it to be a great tool for promoting my small business, for staying connected with friends across the country from various stages of my life, for searching local events, and for keeping updated on the organizations I belong to. And given the hostile energy of this artcle, I would venture to guess, Mr Mumm, you were "Un-friended" one too many times.

I agree with all of the comments that are pro-facebook. It is a device that allows you to communicate with friends and share photos, movies, and events. Nobody forces you to be friends with anybody, poke anyone, join a group, take a quiz, or attend an event someone invites you to! The people that get in relationship troubles and lose their jobs due to posts and pics on facebook were obviously handling it in an unintelligent way. If you set your privacy settings a certain way, and only become friends with people you know, facebook is a perfectly safe site. Almost all of your 15 reasons are untrue! And if your unable to handle the simplicity of a communication site, just delete your account! We don't need you to write a novel! I agree with Alyssa in saying that you've either been "un-friended" one too many times, or you got in trouble by using facebook in a bad way. Move on Chad Mumm!

I have a facebook account to. I actually have been thinking very hard about deleteing facebook. I have to tell you though this article has not helped me in my discission at all. I think a lot of these little comments are stupid. Like if you don't like comments that others leave on their page then don't read it and if you don't want to join an event, then don't join. IDK doesn't seem like rocket science to me but whatever. My main problem with facebook is the fact that creeps could have access to my pictures and things if I am not smart enough to put everything private. I think I have all the settings correct now so that somebody I don't know can't get on my account and check out pics of my daughter, but that really creeps me out.

Facebook is just another one of those stupid fads that nobody will remember in a couple of years. And to those who say it helps them keep in touch with their friends have you ever heard of a phone? its this awesome device that lets you actually talk to someone else!

the majority of your complaints have already been addressed, you can block any applications, people, notes, notifications, etc that you don't like
DaddoDec 11th 2009 12:58PM
AOL looks really petty ragging on Facebook. Just because they're not affiliated with Facebook and are not making any money off it...doesn't mean they should rag on it. Grow up AOL.
AngieMay 10th 2010 10:45PM
Whine, whine, whine. You don't like it, don't join. I have belonged from the beginning, I have reconnected with people I cared about, I share fun photos with my family and everyone gets to see my dog. It's not the Anti-christ. If you have a life you're not ashamed of, Facebook is no big deal. Drunk, sober, whatever.
etwerskyMay 11th 2010 12:36AM
Any comments you do not want to see can easily blocked by hitting "hide"

I disgree about "filtering" content from specific people because the cool thing about the newsfeed and facebook in general is the sharing of differing opinions and points of view. That's why it's called Facebook. Otherwise go to the Elite group and hang out w/ all your elitest friends where you all do and say the same things!
If filtering where allowed it would breed a spirit of intolerance. You shouldn't be able to blacklist people.
