15 Reasons to Quit Facebook

Oh, Facebook. Who would have thought that a small project started by a Harvard student to distract himself from thinking about a girl would have evolved into the world's largest social networking site, recently cracking 200 million members? We've been with the site since the early days, but we'll admit to feeling some considerable Facebook fatigue recently. As Facebook has grown, its influence has crept into our lives in increasingly exhausting and, frankly, annoying ways (Don't even get us started on what it's done to our offline relationships; just how do you explain to someone in person why you've 'de-friended' them, anyway?). We've just about had enough, which is why we're all on the verge of quitting Facebook altogether. You too? Maybe you'll relate to some of our 15 reasons.

At first I didnt like facebook , when people posted comments on my wall i was confused who they were talking to, So continued to go on Myspace alot more than facebook. I decided to go back to facebook again to give it another chance and to my suprise i had been contacted by alot of my long lost friends. Wow if I had only given facebook a chance prior to going back home to ny this past dec 08 I could've reunited in person with so many people. I started twitter also but nothing compares to facebook. One piece of advise if you dont want people to know dont post it.... And if you dont want to be found dont join.... The only problem that I have encountered is that I find myself on facebook for hours and hours at a time, during lunch breaks by mobile phone , when i get home from work and any other free time I have. My friends and Co-workers say I need facebook anonymous !!!! LOL whatever, I love facebook....
thank you

I was talked into joining facebook by a mid-fifties peer, but I don't really care to connect or reconnect with anyone that I can't do so without it. Its pointless to me. I'm a private person.

The reason AOL always posts negative things about facebook is because they shifted the AOL profiles over to Bebo.com (which was a horrible move). They're just trying to get everyone to switch to bebo.

i like facebook but im careful not to get addicted but lots of people who r like 12 or 15 r useing faebook not just 18 and older we just lie about our bday im not in hs i use it is way better than myspace i think its anoying how much crap it gets and for thoughs who are older its a great way to reconnect , personally i use it to ask friends over or plan 2 go c a movie if my friends happen to b on but it should totally stay its great as long as u dont get addicted and lose all personal contact even though i must say i hate the new facebook page and the weird request shoe request ect. whats that about

I'm betting it's the new interface--which is beyond me. I'm in that older demographic and LOVE this because I'm finding my older friends from high school, etc. in ways I never thought possible. Or maybe it's because they find they feel they really don't have the time to continue on with it...

Facebook is great if you're not aware that something better exists. (I will say FB beats MySpace). But, I found something better http://itshrunk.com/a2b40b

Personally I think Facebook and Myspace are for the teenagers. As a middle aged woman I prefer using the phone or visiting in person with my friends. I don't need to find people i went to school with. I didn't care about them back when I was in school and i don't care about them now! Not sure why everyone wants to be part of these social networking sites... I don't want or need "Cyber friends" my real friends are what matters. I think people should worry and concentrate on the REAL world!

facebook blows dont see what allteh hype is about , tried it and if ya dont know what ya long lost friend looks liek today you wont find them enter any name and a hundred people come doesnt list age location or anything to help you figure out if its the person your lookin for , anfd for the people i am familiar with that i have seen recently i can jus pick up the phone , is everyone so hung up onthems sselves they have to see their words in print , to chicken shit to actually speak in person , and what the hell is up with texting alexandr bell made this discovery so we no longer had to send telegrams we can speak , what is everyone agoraphobic cant we all jus talk to eachother instead of type abouit each other?

This guy is a douche nozzle, writing all this crap and knowing dam
well he has an account to every social net site out. Good luck on
trying to run that by (like you said) the 200 million + using the
site or maybe he's a prick with no friends trying to make a stand.
Look like many things in life the internet can be dangerous no mater
what sites you visit with basic knowledge and respect every thing
should be fine!!

your talking about how facebook has people sitting in front of the computer all day instead of people.
yet your not outdoors communicating either. your sitting in front of the computer yourself bitching about another website.
grow up and quit hating just because you couldnt come up with the idea yourself.
thanks.

No one has to participate in everything on facebook. Be picky, as in pick and choose in what you want to be involved. Someone unbeknownst to me sent something about a condom. I did not want to be involved, so I did not respond. I also did not want to know who sent it. If someone wants to send a more intimate than public message, they can do so on the inbox. The public messages are basically used to send a HI, I am thinking about you or about this or that. "Pokes" are completely unnecessary, a simple HI is fine.

Once you are on facebook you are screwed. All your information is out there for people to see. I have tried looking for a good site to delete my info from that site but there seems to be none available. Its the same with this site . need to enter a password and username just to enter a comment.

I just quit Facebook an hour ago. It was becoming too time consuming. You're on there for 3 hours or more looking at profiles. Plus, the friends I have on there are busier and it's hard to catch them. It sucks you in too much. And plus, they're planning on having members pay for it annually. I don't want to do it. A recent article I read and others were encouragement for me to leave. Sunday or Monday was when I decided to leave Facebook. I wish Facebook the best and happy 5th anniversary, but I don't want to continue with them.

I like facebook to a point. The only thing I don't like is the bad laugage. And the pron site that ladies and young girls are trying to get you to look at. This has happen to me and my husband site several times latley. I think it should not be allowed. I was taken off facebook because someone with the same first and almost spelled last name. Thay were useing bad words. Some truned my name in to facebook and thay would not let me back on for three weeks. I had to prove my account with them before I was able to get back on. It seems good people get hurt these days and the bad are over looked. Sorry but it is just my thoughts on the subject.

Today's social networking sites has made life like a street act. "No Privacy". But people want to be connected with friends and family who are far away in distance and time. These social networks fill this gap in our lives.
I guess Private Social Networks that would be the solution for people who worry abt their privacy. www.dateleaf.com allow u to socialize with people if different groups so there is no privacy compromise. It is interesting concept.
