Morning Xtra: Goldman Sachs, Korea Try to Shut Bloggers Up

Famous Korean Blogger Faces Prison Time
Democracy takes a low blow as South Korean financial blogger Park Dae-sung (known online as "Minerva") faces 18 months in prison after being falsely critical about the Korean government. Famous for predicting the fall of Lehman Brothers and the resulting global economic crisis, the blogger was arrested after publishing an incorrect story that prosecutors claim undermined the credibility of the government, according to the AP. Want an Unlocked iPhone? Bring Your Wallet
Online outlet Buy.com announced it has begun selling unlocked iPhones. If you're a heavy traveler and like to swap SIM cards, or if you just can't stand AT&T (the unlocked phone will work on T-Mobile, although data speeds will be slower on the EDGE network), then bust out the wallet; an unlocked device will set you back a whopping $800. With that dough, you could buy an Asus Eee PC 901 netbook and an iPod Touch and still have $300 left over. [From: Business Insider]

Goldman Sachs to Blogger: Shut Up
Financial giant Goldman Sachs has too much on its hands right now to be dealing with pesky bloggers, or so it would seem to us, anyway. The company recently sent a cease-and-desist letter to Florida blogger Mike Morgan, whose critical blog GoldmanSachs666.com apparently infringes on Goldman Sachs' trademark and "creates confusion in the marketplace," at least according to the company's letter. Yeah, right. Nice try, Goldman, but bloggers have rights too. Thank you, First Amendment. [From: Fox News]

Nikon's Sweet D5000 Announced, Again
Yesterday's leak of Nikon's newest DSLR, the D5000, had us plenty excited. Today, the company officially announced the new camera, which features a 12.3 megapixel sensor, full HD movie mode (at the longed-for cinematic frame rate of 24p), and a killer articulating display screen that reminds us of the Sony Alpha cameras. What's the best part? The price. At $850 with a lens, this becomes a serious contender for the camera with the most bang for its buck. [From: Engadget]

New York City Eyes Jamming Cabbie Cell Phones
If you've ever taken a ride in the back seat of a New York City cab, you know how harrowing an experience it can be. These days, many cab drivers constantly have a cell phone to their ear, even while hurtling down the streets and avenues. It's become such a concern for the Taxi and Limousine Commission that the commission is considering the installation of cell phone blockers in cabs to prevent the dangerous practice. Aside from the questionable legality of the proposal, we think it's a great idea. [From: NY Daily News]
