"Computers Ruin Our Kids," Says Stevie Nicks

"I believe that computers have taken over the world," Nicks told the AP last week. "I believe that they have in many ways ruined our children. I believe that kids used to go out and play." She continued, saying "I believe that social graces are gone and manners are gone because all people do is sit around and text." Although her extreme Luddite perspective may be admirable, Nicks' long chain of "I believe" statements was enough to make us slightly uneasy.
According to the article, Nicks does not own a cell phone or a computer, largely due -- we'd imagine -- to such devices disturbing her balance of crystalline energies. Apparently, said energies are not vulnerable to lame orchestral synthesizers. [From: AP, via The Huffington Post]

I have to agree, we never had computers growing up in the seventies, no cell, no video games, no computers and we had some of the best music...including the lovely Stevie.

I believe.... I believe... I believe... someone should tell Mrs. Nicks up there that nobody cares what she believes, mostly because she's a washed up 70's singer who is just wanting some attention. And to that dude who grew up in the 70s... shouldn't you be at work or something?

I think it's funny when baby boomers that were once notorious for ranting about the older generation being out of touch now rant and rave about the elements of modern life corrupting the kids of today. Crochety old farts in hippies' clothing.

I just wish someone would tape this old hag's mouth shut. She's been holed up in her crystal palace for so long she has no idea what's really going on. Someone who's life has mainly consisted of drug abuse and nothing else of substance needs to crawl back into her hole and shut up.

The thing that impresses me the most about America is the way parents obey their children. There was a time when we expected nothing of our children but obedience, as opposed to the present, when we expect everything of them but obedience. If you want to see what children can do, you must stop giving them things.

Oh, Stevie. It's not the computers fault that the kids don't get out. It's the parents fault for letting the kid(s) just sit on thier ass all day as they slave to their kids every desire.

And yet y'all fail to realize - this is to all the rude comments - that she purchases iPods fills them with all different kinds of music and gives them to wounded soldiers at walter reed. I'm one of the people that would rather text than talk, but there is a serious lack in interpersonal communication in this modern computerized age.

Indeed. Your tone completely ruined the article.

Stevie, stick to the singing please. Kids are f-ed up for the same reason they've always been: their parents.
