Nearly 100% of Teens Want an iPod, Survey Says
Wake up, Microsoft! Research firm Piper Jaffray's most recent Teen Survey has concluded that, when it comes to MP3 players, American teenagers only want Apple. The firm's most recent polling of 600 high school students reveals that every teen in the survey who didn't already own a media player wanted an iPod. Of the teens who do have MP3 players, 86-percent have iPods. None expressed any interest in purchasing devices from Microsoft, Sony, Creative, or several other major companies that sell digital media players.
This demographic domination serves as a serious kick in the pants to other mobile device manufacturers, which should be worried about these teens upgrading to iPhones and remaining loyal to Apple in their adult years. The famous Apple iPhone did see a decline, though, when comparing the latest data with Piper Jaffray's previous survey last fall. Only 16-percent of teens plan on buying an iPhone, down from 22-percent. It's the perfect graduation gift idea, parents! Your kids want them; they're just hoping they don't have to pay for them. What Do Your Gadgets Say About You?
What Does Your Tech Say About You?
As makes sense in consumer societies, most folks in developed nations -- wittingly or not -- express themselves via the stuff they accumulate. Since technological goods have become increasingly pervasive, and affordable, it only makes sense that tech companies have begun to imbue their products with 'personalities' of their own. From your ride to your ringtone, your tech -- like it or not -- can expose aspects of your personality to others. Click through to see just what we're talking about.
Your car
Possibly the most widely recognized status symbol of the modern era, the automobile has been developed perhaps more than any other piece of machinery to appeal to certain personality types. A Mercedes, for instance, might give off the vibe that you are a high-roller, concerned with sophistication over flash. If you drive a Chevy, you're putting out that all-American vibe. And if you drive a Hummer? Well, you just suck.
Your ringtone
Downloadable ringtones have skyrocketed in popularity over recent years, with even your cousin's pitiful emo band hawking their own via MySpace. Since the kinds of people who use ringtones are rarely the kinds of people to courteously set their phones to silent mode when in public, the whole world's perception of you could hinge on your ringtone selection. If you pick a Young Jeezy jam, you're probably the type of person who likes to get crunk. If you download a Barry Manilow ringtone, you're probably the type of person that downloads ringtones by accident.
Your cell phone
With smartphones pervading pockets and purses everywhere, the cell phone may soon replace the automobile as the most recognizable status symbol. While a BlackBerry gives off the vibe that you are all about business, an iPhone would suggest that you mix business and pleasure -- a technological mullet, of sorts. And as for those Luddites among us with older-gen, plain-old cell phones? Well, that says we'd rather buy months' worth of groceries than a telephone.
Your preferred MP3 player bit rate
A CNET report has broken down MP3 listeners into types, contingent on their bit rate preferences. Folks who listen to 128kbps probably use their MP3 players' included headphones. Those who subscribe to 256kbps are highly likely to use BitTorrent, but never Limewire. Lossless fans tend be Gen X-ers, while 320kbps-listeners tend to be part of Gen Y.
Your Vista sidebar gadgets
Since Vista's "gadgets" feature leaves some users perplexed, Windows Vista Magazine (that's right) offered a break-down of Vista user types last year. According to the article, those who leave the sidebar alone are "unadventurous" and might be "nervous." Folks who mess with the sidebar a little bit are "naturally curious," but also "flit between things." On the other hand, Vista users who fully take advantage of the sidebar are called "individuals" who "aren't afraid to try new things." It's almost as if Windows Vista Magazine wants you to pay for Windows Vista gadgets. Weird.
Your gadgets, in general
If you're a gadget lover, or what's called an 'early adopter,' research shows that you're probably an assertive person. The study, conducted by Nielsen Online and Mindset Media, also found that folks who rush to the store in order to buy the newest gadget tend to have strong leadership qualities. Oh, and they also tend to be condescending jerks.
Your Mac
If you're a Mac user, chances are high that you're also an early adopter, so it should be no surprise that, as the owner of a Mac, you are probably an arrogant, uptight kind of person. Of course, it's not all bad. The study in question, conducted at last year's Macworld conference, shows that Mac users also tend to be more open-minded. Unless it comes to PC-users, that is.

Gotta love the poll:
Do you own an Apple iPod?
Yes
No
I don't own an iPod.

Way to go Switched
By the way, just in to defend my position: I am a teenager, and I do not want an iPod or an iPhone, and if I were to receive an Apple product as a gift, I would resell it and get something else.
I don't like Microsoft or Sony or any of those either - waaaay too overpriced for my taste.. Generic Chinese PMPs FTW!

Im in highschool, I had a ipod in the past, sure its intuitive and nice looking, before they were this mainstream, but I sold it just because people started having ipods... It is impossible 100% of people want a ipod because there will alway be people like me who won't buy an ipod just because everyone has them. I use a samsung p2 with bluetooth headphones, and seriously people are just wanting to look cool playing games on their itouch. I have a tablet pc and play full blown touchscreen games, particularly rts's.

Im a college freshman and do disagree with this poll. When growing up, i have never wanted an ipod because they were just too over priced and over hyped. the greedy bastards at apple just want to screw ppl over by making a product that plays music and just over price it. I am Anti-apple and when i had the choice to get a nano, i got a sansa view instead. more memory for a cheaper price...tho i admit the touch is cool.

I didn't really care about getting an ipod vs. a different brand until I told my mom that. I ended up with this little two gig Sansa that broke about fifty times. Eventually I killed it. I put too much on it and accidentally overwrote the firmware. Now it's nothing but an overpriced radio and I have a sixteen gig iPod nano. I'm certainly not going to overload that any time soon.

I own an i-pod, one of the newest nanos (the chromatic) i got it for my birthday and can not live without it. I am 15 and listen to it everyday. It is awsome!! I have games videos and of course music. I have got it for my birthday and is the number one favorite item. I had another one several years ago, but with all the dropping and the overload of junk i put on there, and not to mention all the times i let my friends and cousins borrow it, it eventually stopped working. But i know better now to take better care of my new one. But anyway why do some people hate it so much? Everyone loves music and this allows you to listen to it when ever you like.

I'm 14 and I don't own an iPod. I thought about it, but decided not to burden my mom and bought an SD card for my phone instead. The only bad part is that phones aren't allowed at my school but iPods are. :/
