What is Twitter?
Twitter is what is known as a microblogging service, an online place where you can 'post' short messages, or 'tweets' of 140 characters (including spaces). These 'tweets' can be read by anyone who is 'following' you (essentially, subscribing to your tweets). Similarly, you can follow (subscribe) to the tweets of anyone you want, from friends and family to favorite celebrities, publications and Web sites (like Switched, which you can 'follow' on Twitter by clicking here). The tweets of your followees show up in a main feed right on Twitter's main page, one after the other in chronological order.
At its most basic, Twitter is a dedicated status updating service à la Facebook (in fact, Facebook seems to have modeled its recent upgrade on Twitter), with which you can keep people up-to-date with your life -- be it what you're doing at a particular moment in time, a link to an interesting Web site, or something as mundane as what you had for lunch.

I think twitter can be a useful tool to relay info., however, it is important to keep these electronic services in perspective and remember that there is no substitute for direct one on one human interaction.

The thing about it is, you either "get it" or you don't. It is NOT mainly for updating what happened throughout your day. Get a Life people. Its a really useless and stupid. If you are so worried about what the hollywood star's are doing or any other celeb you have mental issues. That is the only reason why this stupid sight even is around. If you have to twit all the time you got mental problems. Its like blogging that one is really dumb too.

You don't understand the function of Twitter. It's not about "putting your life out there." That is not it's main function. I've put a comment or two about the real function of Twitter in this comment stream -- so feel free to read about it's use, or go ahead and google the use of Twitter. You will find many great uses for Twitter, and begin to understand it's function if you read about it, and understand it even more fully if you participated on it. You really shouldn't speak about something you have absolutely no knowledge of! Finally, I wanted to say it is VERY rude and mean spirited to call others morons and people who have lives that are sad and non-existent. How rude and very presumptuous of you. I'll let it go, bc I'm going to chalk that one up to ignorance. By the way, ignorance doesn't mean stupidity, it just means you don't know, don't know any better, and perhaps through no fault of your own. Perhaps you've never seen or experienced Twitter, so you just spoke out of turn. So we'll let it go this time, but please don't be so arrogant next time, and watch before you speak about something you have no knowledge of... Thank you :)
