Morning Extra: Palm Pre Doubts on the Rise, China Blocks YouTube

Because we can't always cover all the great news in depth, we here at Switched have started a new A.M. feature, which recaps important stories that we may not have hit earlier in the morning. Welcome to our fourth edition of the Switched Morning Extra.
Doubts About the Much-Hyped Palm Pre on the Rise
Considering last week's significant announcements about the upcoming iPhone 3.0 upgrade (and likely a new iPhone), folks such as Robert Scoble and others are beginning to wonder if the much-hyped Palm Pre really has a chance at 'killing' the iPhone, particularly since the darling of CES doesn't even have a launch date yet. Given this economy and the existing base of iPhone users (and wannabes), we're inclined to agree. [From: Scobleizer]
China Blocks YouTube
According to Google, YouTube is blocked in China. The specific reasons aren't known, but it could be because of a video of Chinese police beating up Tibetan rioters, which the Xinhua news agency says is a fake. [From: NY Times]
Blockbuster to Offer On-Demand Videos on Tivos
Joining Netflix and Amazon, Blockbuster will soon be offering on-demand videos for rent and sale ($4 to rent, up to $20 to buy). The service is set to launch towards the end of this year, at which time Blockbuster will also sell Tivo DVRs in its stores. The plan is to eventually expand the service to Net-connected Blu-ray players, mobile phones, and gaming consoles à la Netflix. [From: USA Today]
Onlive Hopes to One Day Stream Games Over Broadband to PCs and Netbooks
Forget discs or downloading bulky software to your computer. At this week's GDC, Onlive is showing off 16 games that it plans to literally stream over the Internet. And it's not just casual games; recent hands-on reports say that high-end games such as 'Crysis' look as good as they would if they resided on a desktop. [From: Engadget]
'Fable 2' Developer Suing Microsoft for Homophobia
Jamie Durrant, a game developer who worked on the Xbox 360 game 'Fable 2,' is suing Microsoft for neglecting his complaints about the 'uneasy atmosphere' he experienced at work (namely, e-mails sent around the office with subjects such as "I'm Jim and I'm Gay" and "Me and My Favourite Men."). It's ironic, says GayGamer, considering Microsoft's ratings are high for its treatment of gay employees, not to mention the homo-friendliness of 'Fable 2' itself, which features gay and lesbian characters. Too bad the same can't be said about the company's Xbox Live policies. [From: Telegraph Via: GayGamer]
