Toys of 2009: Best of the Rest

We spent a week at the 2009 New York Toy Fair and came away with a renewed desire to be 10 years old again. This episode of our Toy Fair series showcases some other great toys that defied easy categorization.

Daydream Toy Doodle Car: These little battery-powered cars use optical sensors to follow lines you draw with the included black marker. Think of it as a toy-train set that never needs track. ($12, daydreamtoy.com)

Smash-Me Bernie: These smash-able Bernie Madoff figures from Mini-me Modelworks could bring some needed catharsis to down-and-out investors. Each one is hand-painted and comes with its own golden hammer. If smashing stuff isn't your 'thing,' just upload a picture of yourself at minimemodelworks.com and they'll make you into a custom model. We can't think of a better gift for a loved one than a 6-inch ceramic caricature of their favorite son/daughter/husband/wife. ($50, minimemodelworks.com)

The company likes to have fun with its creations, launching a sub-site with it's own version of 'Amelie's' roaming gnome, called "Where's Bernie?"

Marshmallow Blaster:
Okay so this toy may not be exactly "tech-related" but it was featured on xkcd, which is about as good a geek-endorsement we've ever seen. ($30, marshmallowville.com)
