11 Quick Fixes for Gadget Disasters

2) How to Save a Wet Cell Phone:
The problem: You drop your phone in the toilet.
The fix: Remove the battery to prevent power from going through the circuit board, as this can result in a short circuit. Prepare a bowl of dried rice, place both components in the rice and leave them for 24 to 48 hours to dry. The rice will act as a desiccant, pulling the moisture out of the cell phone. Don't shake the phone around, though, as you don't want to spread water to previously dry places. Check out our video demonstration here.

I have dropped my phone in the toilet and it has gone through the full cycle in the laundry. Both times I took out the battery and dried the phone with a hairdryer. Worked well, still using the phone.

This does not work if your phone is powered up. The battery hitting the water instantly fries the phone. I been there done that.

I dropped my Ipod in the hot tub. It went to the bottom. I used my air compressor to blow it out and after 2 months it started working again.

My Nextel cell phone was under flood water. I immediately pulled out the battery. In my car, i pit the opened cell phone under the window defroster vent...turned on the heat and covered it with a towel. This dried out the phone perfectly which had been satuated.
I put in the battery and the phone would not work , so as a last ditch effort I poured rubbung alcohol into the phone and soaked it with the battery out. Then again onto the dashboard of my car with the heater defroster on and covered with a towel. Phone was dried out perfectly. Replaced the battery and it's been working fine for the last two years.
