My good friend is an IT dude. He told me the first step is to unplug the laptop and remove the battery. I handed it over to him. He took the entire computer apart and cleaned it with a cotton swab and isopropal alchohol. I think it may be a better idea to use alchohol because it dries faster.
Props to Oz. You saved my computer, dude!

Patricia

Comments on 11 Quick Fixes for Gadget Disasters

From an old computer tech. If water is spilled on a keboard just do as stated above turn it upside down and let it dry for a day or two. However if it is pepsi, coke or other sticky sodas quick action is required since once this stuff dries you will have keys that will push down but won't come back up because it will turn to thick sticky syrup. First rinse thoroughly under running water or even better a shower turning upside down frequently. Then turn upside down and let sit for an hour or two. Then douse thoroughly with isopropyl alcohol then turn over and leave for 24-48 hours. If the keys operate without p[hysically sticking then hook back up to the computer and see if it operates electrically. If so then you are done. If it operates intermittantly or erratically then dry an additional day or so. If it still will not opereate or is erratic then buy a new one but this is rarely necessary. One word of caution. If your keyboard has a lcd readout or a display of any kind the alcohol could cloud the plastic cover over the readout. But this is no problem for standard keyboards. And as someone else said if yours is a laptop how about taking it to a qualified repair shop since all bets are off.

JMENUIS

Comments on 11 Quick Fixes for Gadget Disasters

what should you do if you spilled isopropyl alcohol on the keyboard part of laptop

leola wiggins

Comments on 11 Quick Fixes for Gadget Disasters

hey, i was off work 2 day. heard of this & here i am. hope i know someone here!!!

shirley schmittler
