Facebook Full of Geezers Over 30

Under the age of 30? Then you might want to consider closing out the ol' Facebook account. That's right, we geriatric 30-somethings with our sock garters and Hair Club memberships are taking over.
A recent Time magazine story lists 10 reasons why Facebook is for old fogies, and we tend to agree with them. Some interesting statistics back up their premise. Facebook memberships now number over 150 million, with those 30-and-over representing the most rapidly growing segment. If that alone doesn't scare you youngins off, these other reasons surely will.

One significant reason to be especially wary of Facebook -- that the original author doesn't mention -- is the Facebook presence of your friends' parents and your bosses (if you're old enough to work, that is). By now, we've all heard the stories of employers firing their employees for Facebook comments. But, if you refuse their friendship, they'll know you're hiding something, right? Conversely, if you accept their friendships, and you know that your friends' parents, or your boss, are watching, how are you supposed to incorporate 'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia' into your status updates without seeming like a total freak? Our suggestion for all the whippersnappers? Stick to Twitter before we destroy it, too. [From: Time]

Ya know, I'm 33 and I love facebook! I was around since the internet started and I'm still going. Those "whipper snappers" who have to show their parents how to use the internet, oh well, sucks to be you. I now live out of my home state, I've lived in a few different places and worked a few memorable jobs. Unlike myspace where all the graphics make it annoying to read any pages, facebook is perfect for me and my generation. We grew up writing (pen and paper) notes and calling each other on the phone. Now that we live far apart we can reconnect. If these youngins need to connect with friends that they currently go to school with and take pictures of themselves in the bathroom as their profile then they are the lame ones. Too bad, I'm over 21 and I can go to bar with my friends. Besides, if it's all about advertising then we are the generation that has our own money to buy stuff on the internet. We don't need our parents permission or money. I welcome the thought of youngins not using facebook anymore. And after this blog I'm going to check my facebook account. Peace posers!!!

I am 13 and i had to tell my parents how to use facebook and most of the people on facebook (that i am friends with) (400 friends)
are UNDER 25!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LouisaMar 7th 2009 10:45PM
You should definitely not have a facebook at 13!! Gosh the site was made for college aged students! Also your extremely great number of friends are probably young since you are!

We are the baby boomer generation who carried this country up until now....as we age....the country is going downhill. I see it before my eyes!!! You too will be an old fogie one day, and might I add that you will want to be part of the latest craze to "keep young." You should not put down facebook as a site for "geezers." It is keeping our generation young and when you age you will want to "feel young" too. Time flies and you'll be there before you know it. So young ones, go and find something else to please you if you like. We "fogies" have been able to connect with friends and family on facebook and we'll continue to enjoy the website.

AmyMar 7th 2009 10:16PM
I do have kids, I tell them to stay off my computer and call their friends! Go to the library or use the school computer if you need to do research for school. And I hate to break it to you, facebook was designed for college students, not high school students looking to post photos of themselves so their friends could comment on how hot they look.

Over 30 going on 25Mar 7th 2009 10:19PM
Well, Warren, how old r u? Apparently, not old enough to even have the facts! I'm over 30, and I don't have sock garters or a hair club membership! I even had to stop and think what a sock garter is because they're not my generation. A 'youngin' contacted me the other day for help with facebook. Were they just trying to make me feel useful? NOT! I ask now, if a person has something to hid, WHY are they posting it on facebook? or any other social network site? duh!!!!
PattyMar 7th 2009 10:19PM
dang, I remember when I was a child, in the 60's, we were wanna be hippies, and we said the you couldn't trust anyone over 30! Now I am almost 50, and my children trust me more than anyone,,,,,,,,,,,,,,what happened?
katyMar 7th 2009 10:20PM
You want to talk about old?? It's anyone with an AOL email address! People, move on and away from AOL!
AOL is just pissed because they suck and Yahoo, gmail has taken all their subscribers away, and facebook gets millions in ad dollars -- AOL doesn't. AOL is just raising shit because they know they've been on the skids of failure and Chapter 11 for the past year or more. So they attack the competition instead of making a better product.
Keep goin AOL! I personally hope you fail - no bail out for crap so called "news" articles.

I don't know who Switched is and I hope you out of business and bankrupt by Easter. Switched premise is retarded.
Carrie-LeeMar 7th 2009 10:25PM
Meh, just place the older people on limited profile status. Most likely they (omg and soon to be me if we're counting over 30's as old!) won't even know the difference.

I LOVE OLD PEOPLE!!!
LoganMar 7th 2009 10:31PM
Well, I think facebook is better whether my mom is on it or not. I think a more important focus is safety. Facebook I think does a way better job keeping everyone safe, especially us kids who are the most targeted. And at the point where something does become unsafe for me, my mom being on facebook may help keep me safe.
