Facebook Full of Geezers Over 30

Under the age of 30? Then you might want to consider closing out the ol' Facebook account. That's right, we geriatric 30-somethings with our sock garters and Hair Club memberships are taking over.
A recent Time magazine story lists 10 reasons why Facebook is for old fogies, and we tend to agree with them. Some interesting statistics back up their premise. Facebook memberships now number over 150 million, with those 30-and-over representing the most rapidly growing segment. If that alone doesn't scare you youngins off, these other reasons surely will.

One significant reason to be especially wary of Facebook -- that the original author doesn't mention -- is the Facebook presence of your friends' parents and your bosses (if you're old enough to work, that is). By now, we've all heard the stories of employers firing their employees for Facebook comments. But, if you refuse their friendship, they'll know you're hiding something, right? Conversely, if you accept their friendships, and you know that your friends' parents, or your boss, are watching, how are you supposed to incorporate 'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia' into your status updates without seeming like a total freak? Our suggestion for all the whippersnappers? Stick to Twitter before we destroy it, too. [From: Time]

Facebook needs to go back to its original audience. College and college alumni only. By allowing all ages (over 13) Facebook has subjected itself to becoming Myspace. I closed out my Myspace account for a reason.
I like how Facebook still has very secure privacy settings but I honestly do not understand why people other than college students need to use Facebook. Children not in college are into popularity status and, therefore, are too stubborn and stupid to realize they need those security settings to protect themselves. Parents who go on Facebook in order to "spy" on their children have some real insecurity issues. My parents don't feel the need to spy on me and control me. I have an open dialogue/relationship with them. Other adults going on Facebook who might not have kids and are not in college. Honestly? Why? There is no point. To college students everywhere, your "friend request" puts you in the same league as the middle and high schoolers. Only WAY creepier. If you fall under this category, it means that you either have no purpose in life or are obsessed with a younger generation who is creeped out by you.

That was all it took. I signed up for facebook. After all, us old folks are entitled to be called the death of facebook. Why is it such an issue if we utilize the technology too. Are the youth of today too elitist to share?? Can't we re-connect with friends too? Get over yourselves.

Lol I have enough REAL friends with flesh and bone in my life. I'm sure there are billions of lovely people on face book, my space, and whatever other sites of their like, but I'm good without them. I have friends all over the country and we email and call and visit. I have nothing against these sights, just not my thing:)

The young people are no different than we were. They will evolve into good people just like we did. FB is fabulous. I have connected with people I haven't seen in 30 years. The only difference between the young and the old.....we have more money. You will someday too. The period of time they don't want the older generation looking at their FB page is short. As soon as they start loading wedding pictures and newborn pictures, we are invited back into their world. I think some of us have college kids on our FB page is just to watch how it works. I'm going to release all my under 30 people today. They know where they can find me if they need me. I am enjoying my FB over 40 friends immensely. I don't need to be a voyeur in their lives.

Poo Bear:
You negated what could have been valid, worthwhile points by expressing them in nothing more than an expletive-filled temper tantrum.
Clearly, age is not a very good indicator of maturity.

Tina, I'm not sure what your problem is but you definitely have a chip on your shoulder and perhaps you need an attitude adjustment. I honestly could not imagine anyone wanting to follow you to any website or any place with the attitude and hostilities you exhibit. If your friends are like you, then I think it's wonderful if you have a place you can all hang out together and not push your nastiness onto other people who are not deserving of it. I am a "baby boomer" and I have a life, thank you very much. It sounds to me as if it is you who should "get a life". Honestly, I cannot imagine anyone even wanting to be friends with you. Did you ever hear of "live and let live"?

Ok all of you who say "old people suck"....who do you think pays for your computer access...your food? your housing? You may be young but that doesnt mean you make a worthwhile contribution to society yet. You are still learning (as obvious by your comment) that the world does NOT revolve around you!

Ive been online longer than most of the kids who are claiming facebook as "theirs" are old. As far as I am concerned they have stepped into my medium, if it were not for my over 30 "geezer" self they would not have all the video games and computer things that they enjoy. It was my generation that made them popular and urged them on. My first registered domain name was over 10 yrs ago. I can build a computer and put together a pretty mean gaming system. I still have my atari and all its games, a coleco, coleco adam with games on tapes and all versions of the nintendo gaming systems. I coded on old tandy and saved them on huge 4" disks. I have punch card progrmas still saved in a box for my own posterity, and remember when computers ran on huge reel to reel tapes. I can do graphics with the best of them, and code my own website. Tiger Direct mags are my p@rn.
I am on facebook. twitter, you tube, myspace and world of warcraft, and so is my business. I am an original gaming geek girl and I am proud of it.
So you young "kiddos" out there can bend over and take your licks from this old 35yr old "geezer girl"

you may want to consider respecting people 30 and older. We've proved we're smart enough to avoid all the obstacles life has thrown at us and survived. Many young people these days will not make it to middle age because of their smart mouths and reckless lifestyles.

Hey, I have a good idea: Why don't these sniveling, snarky little S***s realize the WE MADE the internet, in in most cases, we are paying their bills and buying their computers so they can get on, and look at porn or useless humor instead of doing their homework.

To even bring up "Age" is totally rediculous. FACEBOOK marketing department must realize where all the wealth is in this country, and it is NOT with the under 30's. "Sell where your market is". Well, there is a huge market right here, over 50's have way more money and spend way more than under 30's.
