Brooklyn Artist Will Turn Your Facebook Pic Into a Painting

We've seen video games, Twitter, and even text messages turned into art, so why not Facebook? New York City artist Matt Held saw his opportunity to corner the market on profile pic-based art and pounced.
By joining a Facebook group that is descriptively, if clumsily, called "I'll have my Facebook portrait painted by Matt Held," you can submit your favorite Facebook self-portraits to be painted by the Brooklyn-based Held (of course he's based in Brooklyn). The results are interesting and vaguely cartoonish. Held hopes to build a collection of roughly 200 portraits highlighting how people use pictures on social networking services to create representations of themselves.
We're not going to lie; the idea of having our profile pics recreated in oil on canvas sounds pretty intriguing. We've put together a few of our favorites in a gallery below, but follow this link to see the entire collection so far. [From: NY Observer and Urlesque]
