Apple Upgrades iMac, mini, Pro, and AirPort

We'd heard rumblings about computer upgrades from everyone's favorite Cupertino-based company, but we didn't expect anything this soon. This morning, Apple announced new updates across its desktop computer and router lines. Although there aren't any significant aesthetic changes or redesigns to the models, the Mac Pro, Mac mini, and iMac all received spec upgrades (e.g. faster chips, improved graphics cards, and more storage), and there are even some welcome price downgrades. Click after the break to get the quick rundown of the new items (available now on the Apple store) and new features:

Apple Upgrades iMacs, Drops Price
-
The new 20- and 24-inch iMacs will deliver better graphics thanks to the NVIDIA GeForce 9400m, increased storage, and lower prices. In perhaps the most significant news to consumers, the friendly-on-the-eyes 24-inch model will now be available for the starter price $1,499, the same price as the previous generation 20-incher. Only need a 20-inch iMac? Prices start at $1,199.

Apple Unveils New Nehalem-Based Mac Pro:
-
The new Nehalem-based Mac Pro (starting price: $2,499) will feature the latest graphic technology and a faster processor than the previous model (for $300 less), enabling it to "deliver up to twice the performance of the previous generation system," according to Apple. If you're a power user (heavy video editing, graphic work, number crunching) who hasn't upgraded in a few years, the new Mac Pros look to be a worthwhile -- and relatively budget-friendly -- upgrade.

New Mac Minis Feature Upgraded Graphics
-
The new Mac minis will be available for $599 (with 1 gigabyte of RAM and a 120 GB hard drive) and $799 (2 GB of RAM and a 320 GB hard drive). Both will feature the new NVIDIA GeForce 9400m chip, which provides better graphics while using up to 10 times less power than a typical desktop. Apple calls it "the most energy efficient desktop in the world." Check out the gallery, and you'll see, yes, an impressive five USB ports built into the mini -- perfect for plugging in every absurd USB device you can think of and a keyboard.
- The Airport Exteme wireless router (available for $179) and Time Capsule NAS (available for $299 with 500 GB and $499 with 1 terabyte) will both feature new dual-band Wi-Fi radios which can not only support up to 50 users simultaneously, but also enhance performance, range and compatibility.
