Are You Young Enough to Hear This High-Pitched Tone?

Chances are, if you're in your late 20's or beyond, you never will hear it. Thanks to a tip from Neatorama, we can at least give you the opportunity.
The devices saw a fair bit of press in 2008 when various British governments discussed the gadgets' legality. The municipal government of Kent, for instance, outlawed the devices in June of last year.
For our part, we prefer the old-fashioned way of deterring rowdy teenagers: a grizzled old bouncer sitting underneath a sign reading, "Get grown, or get gone." [From: TrainHorns.net Via: Neatorama]

i have heard this before - i am 14 and HATE IT. my science teacher says that this sound can really damage your ears if you listen to it for a long period of time. this is also used in ringtones so that if someone's cellphone rings, the teacher can't hear it.
also, even if you can't hear this sound it will still damage your ears. so if it is in a shopping center and playing, but people can't hear it, their hearing will be damaged just as much as the people who can hear it, which doesn't make any sense - especially for the people who actually work at the store...

I'm 40 and couldn't hear anything. My 10 year old boy grabbed his ears and started yelling that it hurts. He was amazed at how high and loud the sound was.

Yeah, its a scam, most stuff on the internet is. No surprise.

I'm 43 and that is annoying as all get out. Reminds me of the old "silent alarms" jewelry stores had back when I was a teen.

I'm 29. I currently have a severe head cold with double ear infection. With my speakers set at my normal level I heard it loud and clear. My husband on the other hand is 32 and has worked on US Navy ships for the last 10 years. He didn't hear a thing.

I'm 63 and getting to where I'm obviously missing some music, and have trouble making out words when too many are speaking at once in a crowded room. I couldn't hear "it" though I did hear something. With my sound turned way up, I heard a high pitched hum, but it wasn't annoying (so maybe an artifact) nor as loud as my computer fan. At normal volumes there was nothing.

I'm 23 and can hear it just fine, I can also hear the high pitch noise a tube TV makes from about 50 feet or more when the volume is off. It creeps my fiancee out when I can tell that she left the TV (after leaving it on aux input) on as I enter the house.

I'm 58 and can hear it with no problems. I hate that sound! The first time I heard it was about 35 years ago near the jewelry counter at a Montgomery Ward store. They told me it was their security system. Wonder how long this has actually been in use?!

I'm 108 and I can hear it -and I don't have a computer -or do I? I forgot. What were we talking about? Oh ya, I agree, but I would not do it by myself or after sundown. Thank you.
