Teens' Sex Lives Revealed By the Songs on Their iPods

For parents concerned about the sexual activity of their children, look no further than the playlists on their iPod. If you see one labeled with something to the extent of "Gettin' Freaky with Fitty" you may need to sit and have a talk.
In a recent study led by Brian Primack of The University of Pittsburgh, researchers concluded that promiscuous teenagers more frequently listen to popular music, specifically rap and pop, with sexually degrading lyrics. While making no assertion that the lyrics actually cause the promiscuity, the scientists suggest that a strong link exists between listening to the degrading songs and engaging in early sexual activity.
Paving the way for degradation, popular rapper 50 Cent and the rap duo the Ying Yang Twins elicit specific mention in the study for the "power differential" between men and women expressed in their lyrics. By "power differential," they refer to one of the sexes proclaiming dominance over the other. The study cites lyrics such as "After you work up a sweat you can play with the stick" as an example of a degrading lyric. If you do work up a sweat while playing with the stick, you might want to take a look at this post.
The study seems sensible enough, but we're still waiting on someone to investigate the effects of the Britney Spears/Miley Cyrus/High School Musical teenybopper phenomena on youth behavior. Fitty probably shouldn't take the heat for these incidences of teenage pregnancy, felonious age difference, and racy boudoir photos . [From: CNET News]
Teen Texting Craziness
Syracuse University professor Laurence Thomas made news last year for walking out of the classroom whenever his students disobeyed his "no texting in class" rule. Wouldn't the kind of student who would text in class be happy to have class canceled?
In January, 13-year-old Californian Reina Hardesty sent 14,528 text messages from her cell phone. Fortunately for her daddy, he had her on an unlimited text plan.
Two high school cheerleaders in Seattle were suspended from school in December when school officials found out that they had taken nude pictures of themselves on their cell phones and, mistakenly or not, wound up with them circulating through the football locker room. The girls' parents have filed suit against the school. You'd think they would just let the embarassment die quietly.
In December, while on a class trip (according to an Internet rumor anyway), the above message appeared on 18-year-old Elizabeth Frisinger's phone after mistakenly texting her dad, back home in Cleveland, that she'd just lost her virginity. Whoops!
Outdoing Reina Hardesty, 15-year-old Ohioan Paige Hornev averages 15,000 text messages a month. That comes out to the impressive, or pitiful, average of 500 text messages a day.
Thinking about Emily Jenning's texting abilities just makes our thumbs hurt. The Vancouver, British Columbia teen pumped out an absurd 41,600 text messages in the course of a single month -- we did some quick calculations and that works out to about one text every minute.

Remember, iPod's aren't the only player, so you can assume every teen has an iPod.
It seems allot of the hit songs talk about sex. It's hard to find a song that doesn't have reference to sex

Capitalism is all about addiction. Consumers are addicted to food, cigarettes, alcohol, pharmaceuticals, and now SEX. Corporations produce so-called "entertainment" aimed primarily at adolescents whose hormones make it difficult to resist the temptation. Corporations do not care if their victims become pregnant or get STD's, as long as they and their investors are making money. The deliberate addicting of America by capitalist pigs must stop! Arrest the greedy and put them on trial, LIVE ON THE INTERNET!

You have got to be joking me. What ever happened to listening to music for it's quality rather then to display the fact that you've gotten laid? If 50 Cent means your 'rather active' in the sexual department, then what does the Beatles mean? What does Led Zeppelin mean?
I mean, I wouldn't mind having my future kids listening to both bands, even if The Beatles have a song as blatant as "Why Don't We Do It In The Road" and some of Zep's lyrics include:
"Squeeze me, babe, 'till the juice runs down my leg
Do, squeeze, squeeze me, baby, until the juice runs down my leg"
Just my point of view though
