Facebook Outlines New Governing Principles, Asks for Feedback

Now Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook, has pledged via blog post to take users' suggestions and feedback for all future revisions to the site's TOS. The company has also published two documents: one outlines the rights and responsibilities of users and the site, while the other outlines the governing principles Facebook will use as a framework for future policy development.
Zuckerberg says that from now on Facebook will be governed in an open and transparent way (sounds like the pledges of a certain new president). The "principles" document also says that users will own all of their content and information. On top of that, all accounts will now be treated equally and there will be no more arbitrary removal of profiles.
In keeping with the new principles, users are encouraged to comment on Zuckerberg's blog post and the two new policy documents, so feel free to give him a piece of your mind. Who knew that belonging to a social networking site could get so complicated? [From: Download Squad]

I love Facebook, It has made my online business fantastic even in these tough economic times. I have a online clothing store and I am a personal shopper/Stylist. I have so many Facebook clients and customers. It is a great tool for any business. I offer a discount to all facebook users. www.fashionfixnj.com We carry all designer clothing, at great prices, and Thanks Facebook, way better than myspace.

I agree Christie. Facebook has been a great asset for my business also. I have increased my traffic and customer base using Facebook. It is a great way to connect. I am glad they retracted the new policies. I thought I would have to go back to using myspace.

Tried Myspace and just could not get into it. I didn't like the format and honestly, I never connected with anyone but a few people. I got on Facebook back in December and reconnected with over fifty friends from high school and over a hundred from college, so far.
Not going to say something nasty about Myspace, it is just not my bag. Facebook seems to be much easier to use and navigate, as well as find people you want to connect with.

CJ,
But using a social networking site is a way to reconnect with old friends and family members not living close by. Its not like its the boob tube or a video game that turns you into a couch potato...its just a way to connect with people you know or once knew. You don't have to spend all day on it or isolate yourself to use them.

I DEFINITELY perfer Myspace, I mean Facebook is all right, but I like how you can design your own profiles and all that jazz on Myspace and I usually contact more people on there as well. I rarely go Facebook...it's pretty lame in my opinion.

After several months of fighting with facebook "customer service", trying to get my page fixed, I have given up on Facebook. I can log in to my page, but if I click ANYTHING to get away from the main page, I'm automatically logged out. I can't even delete my account. And of course, "customer service" is saying it's my computer. Then why does it happen on any computer I'm using?
Another friend of mine got a virus that the computer techs were able to trace back to facebook. It's horrible. Facebook is a terrible site. For reconnecting, I just use MySpace...that's what everyone I know uses anyway.

i use both myspace and facebook at first i liked myspace better because you can do scenery but after i was in spacebook(only for a few months now )i like it better its easier to understand but.... when i thought all my pictures were going to be theres i was ready to back out not that my pictures are anything special but they are mine and if i would see them in some magazine or used in a crude way i would be crushed .,my daughters are on it now and some friends its a nice site but i will watch and see what they are up to . i also started on the GENI site that is by far the most interesting site yet already know so much more about my family line and i also seen that Facebook and GENI can be linked so again i am eerie about what facebook was up to so i think your company made a very wise decision about going back to the old rules.

well to ppl who may actually have something more worthwhile to be doing i can understand why they wouldn't use either of these sites...me personally, i prefer myspace. after years of being on there tho even that site is wearing thin on me. i tried facebook but just couldn't get into it. they're both social networking sites so anybody actually arguing over these 2 is just being stupid. i do agree that the main reason i enjoy myspace more is the way you can personalize your entire page to fit you. on a side note...sites like these and the internet in general would be an all around more enjoyable experience if their wasn't so many "trolls" running around always ruining a good thing. which is obviously why i can't post my myspace url here to connect with some of you.

Even if you don't know what it is, never let anyone arbitrarily grab your intellectual property. Even if they want to buy it, be careful to protect what is yours. That web page and what is on it is yours and you don't know what the value of it might be in the future. Even if you think it has little value today, if someone wants to suddenly claim it is their's they have no right and there are laws that protect you,
Mr. Zuckerman knew exactly what he was doing when he tried this outrageous power grab. Never let him or any other computer geek millionnaire just make an edict and take what is rightfully yours.
Believe me, the time it took you to make your page, design it, choose what to put there, what to leave out, even your favorite music has value. If it didn't Mr.Z and his facebook lawyers wouldn't have tried what they did.
