Cat-Beating YouTube Teens Arrested

Two Lawton, Oklahoma teens have been arrested in connection with the now-infamous YouTube videos that showed two cats being beaten and tortured. The two brothers, ages 14 and 16, are believed to be responsible for the videos and are facing charges of animal cruelty.

As part of its coverage of the story, the local news station KSWO featured clips of one of the videos (both of which have been pulled by YouTube). The clips show a gray cat, named Dusty, being beaten and flailed around by a boy dressed in pajamas and a ski mask.

According to Comanche County District Attorney Robert Schulte, the boys are entitled to a trial by jury, although they also have the right to go before a judge. Either way, Schulte says that, if found guilty, the boys could be sentenced with psychological treatment, court monitoring, community service, or court custody.

While it is disturbing enough that children engage in this kind of violent behavior, it's even more troubling that these boys were so emboldened as to post footage of it on YouTube. We are happy to report, though, that the two cats are presently in the custody of an Oklahoma veterinarian.

"They are doing well," Schulte reported. "And they are expected to be adopted out into a good home in the next few days." [From: KSWO via: Newsvine]
