Facebook Admits Defeat, Retracts Terms of Service
Yesterday, Facebook ruffled the feathers on many of its users by issuing a new Terms of Service, or TOS, which some believed gave the site permission to use any content -- profiles, status updates, commentary -- posted on the site perpetually (even if Facebook members deleted their profiles and left the site). Facing a PR backlash of epic proportions, Facebook has now rather publicly reverted to its old TOS.| MySpace | |

Logging onto your profile this morning shows the following message:
Over the past few days, we have received a lot of feedback about the new terms we posted two weeks ago. Because of this response, we have decided to return to our previous Terms of Use while we resolve the issues that people have raised. For more information, visit the Facebook Blog. It's hardly an apology, making it sound like the company has no idea why anyone would be upset about handing over the rights to their photos forever, but people, of course, were mad. Gossip blogger Perez Hilton isn't cutting the company or its founder Mark Zuckerberg any slack, saying that "Facebook still sucks" and that MySpace is "so much more respectful" -- um, we're not entirely sure of that.
If you want to share your thoughts on what should be in the new terms, check out our group Facebook Bill of Rights and Responsibilities.
Meanwhile, another critic, Ed Champion, seems to be back on speaking terms with the social networking site, but that may not last long, as Zuckerberg is indicating that another change is coming in a few weeks. Surely, the site won't try to push that change won't through quite so quietly.
Still wondering what all this means? Well, if you're one of the few hold-outs who hasn't yet joined Facebook, or just want to know how to maximize your social-networking experience, then check out our 25 tips and tricks for Facebook, which start after clicking the 'Next' button below. I prefer Facebook. I use MySpace as well, but with the massive amounts of pedophiles on there, I find the privacy of Facebook so much more warming. I was one of the people to protest Facebook owning my photos, and it seems like I wasn't the only one. And MySpace is a mess right now, while they figure what stuff to steal from Facebook (applications, etc). Facebook allows you what friends you can get updates about, and that's something awesome for me.

When I tried to de-activate facebook, I was given about 10 reasons. The response from facebook was, "if you don't pick a reason we won't de-activate you. I think anyone that thinks facebook is safe is taking a risk. The thing that scares me the most is when there are baby pictures posted and young children - far to much information. If this guy tried to sneak in a little change 2 weeks ago, God knows what he will do in the future - get off while you still own your personal infor.

I found a lot of people that I have not seen for years on Facebook...so I have the profile just to keep up with them. Personally I don't care for Facebook....I like Myspace. I can cusomize it better, on Facebook everything is all institutional and the same, there is no personality. So, both have their pluses...but I gravitate toward myspace.

I really think both Facebook and MySpace have their good points and bad points. I personally prefer MySpace, much easier to use then Facebook which I find Boring and hard to navigate.
As for being dangerous, well I think either one can be dangerous to be on, but not because of the program, I think they are dangerous to be on for people that GIVE OUT WAY TO MUCH PERSONAL INFORMATION...
I take notice on both children younger than 15 or 16 , creating accounts as they are 18 year olds. There has to be something done about that, I mean some parents are very conscience of what their children are doing online, but we have alot of parents that aren't and the kids are posting things that make it so easy for some idiot to find out who they are and where they are located. That really needs to be looked at and a better way needs to be found to identify these kids making accounts.
There are privacy settings also , On Myspace you can make your page private that only people you know can view it , without asking for an add. If someone asks to add them you have the choice to either do it or deny it.....People really just need to be careful on what information they are putting on them.

all of these forums serve almost the same purpose who spoils it is the pple who use the porn, obscenities, idleness that is practiced by u younger pple make u think that this is life but it has more to life than these topics. facebook presents to meet pple and to work with their issues and vice versa like all else who have imp....discussions that are imp....to everyday life but lo and bhold that is is not of any value dont blame FB when pple make up the core of
FB pity that more censoring of language is not practiced on the forum. facebook ur are no worse off than any of the others and its is good to admit to ur shortcomings leads the way...........

I have a myspace acct. and a Facebook acct. I just got thr FB acct. but have had my Myspace acct. forever. I like both of them to honest with you. As to the comment made about Myspace being the reason your friends kid was kidnapped, don't blame it on the website blame on the parent who wasn't watching what their kid is doing on the internet. I think FB is for more sophisticated people with real lives, real friends, and real jobs where as Myspace is really for the more younger crowd who is just learning how to network and everything else, I like FB b/c you can chat back and forth but I like Myspace b/c you get more of an identity with your page and how you can set it up....FB is a little dry when it comes to having a personalized page everyone's looks the same. As for your info being the property of FB don't put what you don't want everyone and their mama seeing and you wouldn't be so worried about, on the News they have told us that websites like these employers or future employers have access to it all so in that respect watch what you say and you may or may not get the job or you may just be fired.....You can't live your lives blaming a website about what you choose to upload on it that's you personal problem. That's just my opinion but I think it's a good opinion b/c there a pro and con to everything

Wait till the Chinese buy facebook. They will have all the intelligence data they could ever hope to gather from any other intelligence source or governmental agency concerning the biographacial and personal social data of millions of Americans who were so foolish to willingly supply this information onto file servers of a privatly owned corporation.. Identity theft will have a whole new demention never thought of before. Congress must act quickly to insure that facebook subscribers are afforded the right to delete at any time (and with verification) their own personal information and photos. There must also be provisions allowing for the automatic deletion of all information submited to facebook when a subscription to facebook is terminated.

There is NO WAY I would ever put my personal image, information or any content on any public internet site like My Space or Facebook or any similar site. A person is just begging for a lifetime of problems and public intrusion. There is no privacy, no guarantee that your image or other information will not be used for
criminal or other hateful purposes. Why on earth people would want to expose themselves in such a manner is utterly baffling. What ever happened to common sense and classy behavior?

I've used MySpace and Facebook and I've gotten rid of MySpace. I feel safer on Facebook, the people are GREAT and I love all the applications. MySpace is 'haunted' by a buncha perverts and weirdo's (found this out personally. A good friend was stalked and found by a wacko following her on MySpace...fortunately she's fine.) You can have MySpace!! I'll stick with Facebook...it's definately the BEST!!!

my personal opinion is if it looks like a rat, sounds like a rat and sneaks like a rat - it is a rat - this guy tried to sneak a claus in about owning our personal information - that means he is sleezy, sneaky and not worth it - get off facebook -

I wondered why I was unable to log on to facebook today. I've only been a member for a week or so - but the first day I joined, my ex-husband, from whom I've been hiding, found me and began harrassing me. I say get out and delete any info that you've ever been there. I can only speak for my safety, but who knows what could happen because of this.
JDFeb 24th 2009 7:15AM
I also have both facebook and myspace accounts. My (3-year-old) daughter also has accounts on both services. I enjoy watching her and her friends have fun and I feel much closer to her when she sends pictures of their parties and such. I much prefer facebook - there just doesn't seem to be as many freaks on facebook.
But learning this news may put a new spin on this safety issue. I guess we should all keep our clothes on and stop displaying inappropriate photos and stories. If you're not doing anything wrong, you don''t have anything to hide.
Sorry this isn't written in "lingo" - I hope readers can understand it.

Unlike OctoMom, no one is going to "give" you or me any money..If you still have your job you are really lucky in this economy. I lost mine a few weeks ago. By visiting this website I was able to make about $135 the first week. The 2nd week I made about $275 and so far this week I am up to $576. I'm not getting rich but it helps supplement my income while I am looking for full time work and I can do it from home while home with my kids.
