'25 Things' You Should Know About Facebook

It's a phenomenon that many folks have found fun and self-revealing, while others – such as the Washington Post's Dan Zak – have found a bit annoying and limiting. Zak quotes sociologist Michael Stefanone, who sees the '25 Things' trend as a way for us to compete for attention, and, ultimately, a bit of the old TMI ("Too Much Information") syndrome. We couldn't agree more.
So, enough with the '25 Random Things' about you lists. Most of the ones we've seen are boring, rude, and self-indulgent, which is why it's the latest addition to our list of Facebook Dos and Don'ts, the rest of which you can find by clicking on 'Next' below. Read 'em, and instantly become a better, more fun-loving, and well-liked member of Facebook.

Maybe people will find out that you're a great person..Or maybe if you hide behind some kind of phony mask, a real A$$ hole! It's a free country and you want to post 25 things about yourself..Go ahead!

Please give me a break. some of the lists are hysterical and if anyone has a problem with it, then DONT read it!!!

AOL, please stop telling people what to do in their personal lives and calling it a story. THAT really is annoying!

I don't agree that too much information is being sent around on facebook in the THINGS ABOUT ME. My friends and family seem to have enjoyed reading each other's posts (including myself) and it has a positive objective - which is to be introspective and serious when you are composing your responses. I didn't detect any "little whtie lies" and it wasn't a waste of my time to read their posts. I even learned more from their responses that I had not known before.

just remember,an employer may see what you have in your profile.this may jeopardize a possible job!
never do anything your great grandchildren would not be embarrassed to see!

This is true, look at the Stewertist that was fired over the pictures on myspace. She was posing in her uniform for some pictures on the Delta Airline plane she was on and put them on myspace and was fired 2 days later.

Virginia wrote, in part, "never do anything your great grandchildren would not be embarrassed to see!" Hmmmmmm ... so, we should ALWAYS do things our grandkids WOULD be embarrassed to see? Sounds like fun!

A friend of mine died just over a week ago and his 25 list was read at his funeral. It was PERFECT! All the ones I have seen are harmless. People cannot be that stupid to reveal outrageous things, if they are, then the consequences are fitting.

Regarding the 25 things You will be remined of them when the prosecutor uses them in court against you and sends you to the pen for a lengthy period of time. For those of us who still live in the red states of the United States, what you have is goverment by the cops and the prosecutors of the cops and prosecutors and for the cops and prosecutors. When you have a world in which all males over a certain age on social networking sites are considered sexual preditors and Nancy "I don't believe in the presuption of innocence" Grace and the journalistic travisty called Fox News stirring up the Jury Pool in your community Kiss your ... bye bye. That is why you will not see me on social networking sites ever. A Texas Lawyer
NormFeb 19th 2009 7:49AM
You're a lawyer? From what I read of your statement, I would be very afraid if you were representing me. You can't even spell and punctuate your sentences correctly! I would expect such a performance from a trailer trash redneck, but not from someone who is supposedly as learned as you should be.

I don't know whose "25 Random Things" you've been reading, but the ones I've read don't contain things that are incriminating or anything of that nature. I've read the lists of people I know well, people I don't know so well, and people I knew a long time ago, and almost all of the lists contain intriguing tidbits that make me wish I knew the person reading them better. Maybe your Facebook friends are reckless, but mine are not.
And to the people who thing it's boring, maybe you need to take a look at yourself and wonder why your friends are so uninteresting.

"A Texas Lawyer" translation = please take me hunting for farm-raised quail released for hunting by Vice President, Dick Cheney, and others on Katharine Armstrong's south Texas ranch, so while hunting these quail, Cheney can accidentally shoot me,...., with his 28 gauge shotgun, from a distance of thirty yards.
yeeeh haaw!~

Who do you think you are telling us how we should create our Facebook pages. It should be up to the individual to decided how they want to design their Facebook. We don't need organizations like yours telling us what pictures to post, what to say, how much to say and how to utilize anything. Keep your opinions and idea's to yourself because part of the fun of Facebook is being an individual and just because YOU think someone is induldgent doesn't mean you're corrrect. The idea of everyone doing everything the same way based on someone elses views is the same thing that brought Hitler to power. Switched Staff = HITLER YOUTH!
DARE TO BE DIFFERENT...BE AN INDIVIDUAL NOT A PUPPET!
JohnFeb 16th 2009 9:52AM
Who asked you what you think? Get over yourself. I understand if hard to find things to fill the spaces writers but don't make crap up.
larryFeb 16th 2009 10:06AM
just like you tell your kids to be wary of strangers,
if you put too much of your info online for all to see, it's your own fault for being so darn stupid.
online becomes the fencepost with a microphone hooked up for all to hear instead of a conversation between 2 people.

Only make your profile available to your friends. Done and done.

FOR THE 300th TIME -- Facebook has controls!!! Only people you WANT to see your stuff can see it!!! If people choose to let the world see it - that's their business but it isn't as "let it all hang out" as you make it seem.
Facebook is a user designed entity - we are not victims of facebook. It doesn't harm you unless you do harm to yourself by posting something and allowing access.
25 things is a fun way to share stuff about yourself. Mine probaby fits in their dull category - but my friends liked it and I liked theres. I don't see harm in it. This just sounds like part of the "I'm too intellectual/good/special for facebook because its popular" backlash to me.
What's next? Superpoke Pets mess up your carpet???

This facebook is for morons. I joined to talk to family and close friends, every day some loser from High School would try to contact me for small talk. If you are one of these people that does this, it is very annoying. Only contact people you actually hung out with. I closed my facebook account and don't miss it at all.
CarrieFeb 16th 2009 12:59PM
Orrrr maybe you're just an anti social freak. ;D
All they want to do is talk to an old friend; doesn't mean they want to stalk you.
Jerk.
