It is entirely possible to kill by lethal injection and still harvest the organs for transplantation. An injection of potassium chloride would cause the heart to simply stop, resulting in cardiac arrest, which is technically "clinical death". Brain death ensues within minutes. If the organs are harvested as soon as the heart stops pumping, and cryogenically preserved, minimal damage would result. The elevated levels of potassium in the tissues would be easily eliminated.
Potassium chloride lethal injections are not "poisonous" in that they do not cause damage to the organs, and do not have toxic metabolites. It merely stops the heart cells' ability to depolarize, just like switching off the ignition key in your car.
