Recycle Your Old Cathode Ray Tube TV

That aging, tube-style TV or monitor in the basement is like a personal Superfund site. It's filled with poisonous lead, cadmium and mercury, yet only 10 percent of CRT TVs and monitors are recycled every year. In many states, recycling these devices is now mandatory, anyway, so check Earth911.org to find recycling locations near you.

Yeah but why should I pay $40-$60 to "recycle" these thing when they just end up poisoning third world countries due to the companies just dumping them there.
I'd rather save green and dump my old monitor on the empty lot 2 blocks away.

How do you poison people in third world countries when you dump your old TV "2 blocks away" from where you live???
If you do that, you're ONLY poisoning yourself and your neighbors - NOT people living thousands of miles away from you in third world countries.

I think ecco was referring to the expose that some recycling centers here in the US are shipping the "recycled" monitors/tube tv's to third world countries, whose governments in turn are paid a "tipping fee", and the tubes are piled in mass open "graves"

You can also recycle your electronics at Best Buy now. you pay $10, but get a $10 giftcard in return. You can either bring it into the store or have them pick it up at your house.
